Room 218, Monday Afternoon

Sep 14, 2009 14:31

Karla was in her room again, trying to decide where to hang her new paintings that she'd gotten from Sophie's gallery. Circle of Trust was probably going to hang above her desk, but she wasn't sure where to hang Stardust. The painting was amazing and would look lovely at the head of her bed, but she wouldn't be able to look at it while she was ( Read more... )

She had lost them. Lost them, somewhere between the fifth and second floors. Which was why Francine was now huffing her way past Karla's room, then backing up and poking her head in the door.

"Smurfs! Freaking... tiny...blue...SMURFS! STOLE. MY. UNDERWEAR!"

Yes, somehow she managed to whisper that last word even while yelling.

Karla dropped the hammer. Fortunately, she remembered to vanish it before it could hurt anything serious, like her foot. "Wait, Smurfs? Like, the mushroom people you were telling me about? The ones who like friendship and calling things Smurfy? THEY STOLE YOUR UNDERWEAR?!"

Karla was not as skilled at keeping her voice down as Francine.

It was possible she'd have to apologize to Jack, later.

No, Jack would probably like hearing about Francine's underwear.

Oh, about the blue people. Yes, possibly.

"YES! THEY WERE NOT VERY FRIENDLY!" Francine, shhh. Wait, what if Karla thought-- "Not the ones I'm wearing! THERE WERE NO SMURFS IN MY PANTS!"

"SMURFS CAN GET INTO OUR PANTS?" Karla asked, horrified. She'd never even considered that possibility. "Why didn't you mention creepy, thieving perverts in your description?!"

"I DON'T KNOW! MAYBE THEY CAN!" No, Francine, you don't suddenly nee dto check. Be focusing on facts now. ...Try? "But they weren't in mine. These weren't, uh. The in-pants kind of underwear. More the lacy....gartery corsety kind. They were hanging up to dry."

"The lacey, gartery, corsety kind?" Karla asked. "What kind are--ooooh. You mean you--" Karla glanced at Francine, looked her up and down, and blushed. "Okay," she squeaked. "Either way, she should definitely try to find them."

Don't think about that now, karla. No thinking! No thinking!

"I followed them down the stairs, but they were faster than me. I lost them somewhere between Five and here."

"Seriously, though," Karla said, once her voice had dropped back down to its normal register, "you did not tell me that Smurfs were perverts. Did not."

She glanced around the room to see if she could come up with any bright ideas. "Do you think we could use more underwear to lure them out?" she asked, spying a bra half-kicked under her bed. "We could put it somewhere out in the open and try?"

Which was Karla for Francine, I apologize for ogling you in my head. Let us never speak of this again.

"They're not supposed to be! Sorry!" Which was Francine for... pretty much what she said. She was kind of straightforward that way. "We could try?"

Ulp. And now she was staring at Karla's underwear, which should not be weird because whatever, bra, but it was, which was weird.

Karla, beat red for no good reason--after all, she had bought the stupid thing with Emma, hadn't she?--went and fished it out from under her bed. She normally would have used Craft, but this gave her an excellent excuse to duck her head under the bed and remind herself that she wasn't an idiot.

"It's black and it's lacy," Karla said, holding it up by the strap. And totally not thinking about how small it was compared to...someone else's. "That should work, right?"

Ulp. "Right!" Francine had an odd fondness for small. ...PEOPLE! Not bras. Or... yes anyway. "Maybe. We can try?"

"So we...just put it out somewhere and wait?" Karla asked, clearly not having thought it through all the way. "Should we put my name on it or something? So if it walks off, we can still find it later?"

Or not. Karla could always just run off and buy a new bra. That might be the better option.

Why had she never realized how much lace there was on this stupid thing? No real fabric in the cups at all! She could see her fingers through--"urk"

Francine thought of ... okay, weirdly, of the way they'd crushed the bracken beasts back in Firekeeper's world, logs falling on them only if they stirred. "Can you set some kind of trap on it, maybe?"

"Uh, like a falling net-thing?" Karla suggested dubiously. "I could probably rig something up. Maybe. Sure?"

The trick would be making sure there was nothing on the bra or the trap that could be easily identified as hers.
