One less furry art site

Aug 28, 2008 11:12

So apparently, the owner of Furry Art Pile up and decided to close the site last night.

No warning. No notice. Just gone. *poof*

I feel badly for the artists who lost any artwork or commission info from the site.

Guess I'll be visiting ArtSpots a lot more in the future.

wtf

At least there's some semblance of a migration strategy if this is to be believed, but I would've given adequate notice. It's not like lightning struck the server hosting it and burned it to the ground, after all...

I've thought about doing things on the scale of the FAP and FA in the past, but it always had "no good deed goes unpunished" written all over it.

Yeah, I thought that a bit strange... I was there earlier and no notice of anything going to be down, let alone down PERMANENTLY. Not a very professional way to go. Sure has folks talking though. :P I guess they retroactively added a utility to retrieve your art... but it's still not a very polite way to do it.

I'm on ArtSpots too and I like 'em. Doesn't bother me too much to only have 2 galleries to update instead of 3!

So I visited noodlesandbeef's post saying "so long and thanks for all the donations" and giggled the loudest over kuniopt's pronouncement that an Encyclopedia Dramatica article would not be required for this drama bomb, because Ecky Ecky Pkang was talking about opening the source and talking about giving refunds. I'm sure that makes up for all the lulz.

FWIW, it's been less than 24 hours since the site shut down. Time will tell if he makes good any of that or not.

Honestly I haven't found any site yet that I find as easy to use as FA. If something offers me a compelling reason to go, I'll go, but I like FA's format, management, and the people using it.

You might want to give Artspots or Yiffit a try.

That's my point though, if all my needs are met why try those? I guess I'm just curious as to what about FA usage sent folks to other sites?

Oh, gee, I dunno... maybe to, you know... try something different?

I think the month of downtime might have had something to do with it.
