To put things into perspective, Japan is obsessed with physical cleanliness as per Shinto faith, hence why a house rat is so unfamiliar and frightening for the ladies (they weren't so much bothered by the rat itself, it's the fact the dorm has pests). More depressingly, this notion that Ken knew how to catch them hints at the quality of life he had with his mom.
No problem. I'm not surprised by the fact the Amadas lived in maybe near poverty, considering how single-mothers are looked down upon in their society and that the whole "Shinjiro's Persona ran through a house and utterly demolished it".
Crap that was more depressing. Uh... Shinjiro's BSOD'ing because he's really sore XD. When Aigis was pursuing the rat, she knocked things down, and we know how horrible Shinjiro's LUK stat is /shot. I'd assume a shelf or rack fell on him and he managed to get up after it was caught.
