CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

The moment I hang up my dad I call Minho. He answers after the first ring.

“Did you read it?”

“Yes.”

“And?”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have acted the way I did. But can you blame me?”

“It’s okay and no I can’t blame you. I had a feeling you might react this way at first. I’m not trying to betray you at all. I’m just trying to help you. My dad and I are trying to help you and your family. I honestly had no idea about this whole thing until before this trip. My dad briefly told me about it before I left. He gave me the bare essentials and then told me Mr. Xiu will tell me everything else.”

“I see.”

“And I know it’s bad that Mr. Xiu is working for both of our companies. But technically when you think about it. He’s actually working directly for my dad.”

“I’m just sorry for yelling at you and saying those things. I should have let you explain. I just felt so betrayed and you know.”

“I know. I’m sorry for hiding it from you. But I didn’t want to say anything until we knew what your dad thought of the whole idea. Why get your hopes up on something that might not have happened?”

“But then again, if you did tell me, I could’ve convinced my dad if he had refused.”

“Good point and you say you’re not a good businessman.”

“Well I’m not. I’m no where near my dad or even you for that matter.”

“You can’t compare yourself to us, you’re still learning the ropes. But I think you’re doing a pretty good job considering. You don’t give yourself enough credit. Besides, I’m sure if your dad didn’t think you could handle this, then he wouldn’t have put you in charge in the first place.

“I know. I just can’t help but think that I need to hurry up and improve so I can match other people’s level. I’m sure some of the people who are working for me think that I’m just some spoiled rich brat who thinks he knows what he’s doing.”

“Don’t worry about them.”

“How can I not? Their knowledge of this world no doubt surpasses mine by light years.”

“Yes, but you’re still the boss and you have to act like it. Don’t let them know that you feel like you’re incompetent, which you’re not.”

“And this is why I love you so much. You know just what to say to make me feel better. Thanks baby. And again, I’m sorry for earlier. Forgive me?”

“Wear that ref outfit tonight and I’ll definitely forgive you.”

“Only if you go out and get a soccer uniform.”

“I can’t just wear the apron again?”

“No, it doesn’t go with the ref uniform. Besides if I have to dress up then so do you.”

“Fine, I’ll see if anyone here knows where I can get one.”

“Why don’t you come back to my office and we can go out to lunch? My treat.”

“Sure.”

“How long will it take you?”

“About five seconds.”

“What? Five-?” and I’m cut off when I hear the door open. I look up to see Minho standing in front of me, phone still up to his ears, “What?”

“I never left. I’ve been standing out in the hall waiting for you to call me or something. You take too long by the way. Your secretary was starting to look at me weird,” he tells me as he walks towards me.

“Babo,” I say as I approach him, “Why are you still holding your phone up to your ear when we’re in the same room?”

“I could be asking you the same thing,” he smirks.

And it’s only then that I’m still holding my cell phone up to my ear as well. I quickly pull it away and stuff it in my pocket. He follows suit, but makes sure to end the call before placing it back into his jacket pocket. I quickly take the last few steps to him and wrap my arms around his neck, his circling around my waist.

“I’m sorry baby,” I say as I kiss the tip of his chin. He gently lifts me up a little so he can have easy access to my lips.

“You’re forgiven,” he says into my lips as he places a chaste kiss on them.

“Do I still have to wear the ref uniform tonight?”

“Yes because I’m getting that soccer one.”

“You think we have sex too much?” I ask knowing that the only reason why we were going to wearing those things tonight was to add a different flare to our sexual lives.

“Where did that come from?” he says with a laugh.

“Well, we do tend to go at it like rabbits. Is that healthy? I mean anyone else would think our relationship is purely physical.”

“There’s nothing wrong with our relationship Minnie. Who cares what other people think anyways. As long as we know how we feel about each other that’s all that matters. And sex is a perfectly healthy thing in a relationship. I don’t see anything wrong with it. I mean it’s not like that’s all we do. We do other things too.”

“But like I said, we do have sex a lot.”

“And seriously, this whole thing just came out of no where. I don’t think we should be talking about this anyways with your assistant right outside the door.”

“I know it came out of no where, since the thought just popped into my mind out of no where.”

“Well then tell it to go away.”

“I’m trying too.”

“Want me to help?”

“I think if you help, it’ll just make things worst.”

“You sure?” his lips come dangerously close to mine, ghosting over them. Teasing them. I try to pull his head closer so that we kiss, but he resists.

“Quit teasing baby and just kiss me already.”

“Okay,” he quickly moves his head and kisses me on the nose.”

“You missed.”

“Did I?”

“Yeah. My lips are down here,” and I tap my finger against it.

“Who said I was aiming for your lips?” and with that, he places my feet back on the ground and grabs my hand.

“I hate you,” I pout.

“You love me.”

“You’re right, I do love you, but that doesn’t mean I like you all the time.”

“Ouch, that hurt,” he feigns pain in his chest by clutching at it.

“It should. You fucking tease.”

“Such fowl language coming from such a beautiful mouth,” it’s his turn to tap my lips with one of his fingers and I pucker my lips to place a kiss on it.

“Come on, I’m hungry. Let’s go get some lunch,” I let him drag me out of my office. Ms. Kang is staring at us as we leave and Minho just gives her a bright smile while I give her a more embarrassed one. I’m sure she heard our conversation in there.

“Ms. Kang, I’m going out to lunch with Minho. Hold all my calls while I’m gone okay?” she just nods her head in response and Minho continues to pull me the rest of the way to the elevators.

Minho ends up taking me to a new restaurant I had no idea existed. It’s a quite little hole in the wall type of place. Their menu was simple, but everything looked so delicious. We were seated at a table by the front of the room and had a nice view of the city blanketed in white from last night’s snow. Talk about a winter wonderland.

“So how much of the documents did you read?” he asks once we place our order with the waiter.

“I stuck to the sticky tabs,” I say guiltily.

“I figured you would, which is why I did them. Well I normally use sticky tabs, but not in that way. I use them for my benefit, not someone else’s.”

“Thanks for that. I don’t think I would have been able to go through the whole thing.”

“Everything go over your head.”

“Not everything, but a good portion. I ended up calling my dad to just let him explain everything to me since you said he met with your dad about it the other day.”

“Well what do you think about the idea?”

“I think it’s worth a shot. I mean I don’t really want to do business with Sulli’s family anymore if this is the way they are going to be. I want to our company to have a clean record. No scandals or anything like that. And seeing how your dad feels the same way, I think it’s safe to say that we’re better off with him.”

“Spoken like a true businessman,” he pinches my cheek.

“Quit it. You’re going to give me a big head.”

“There’s nothing wrong with having confidence in certain things. You know, like you do when you dance.”

“That’s different.”

“Not really. I mean my passion for the company is pretty equal to the passion I have for sports. I may not go about showing it the same way, but you know what I mean.”

“I think so.”

“Don’t be so hard on yourself Minnie.”

“I’m trying not to.”

“Try harder.”

“Okay. Now enough about business okay? Remember what I told you before.”

“Yeah, yeah you don’t talk about work while you’re on lunch.”

“Correct,” our food arrives not too long after and we dig in eagerly. The rest of lunch is spent in a comfortable silence, staring out the window, an occasional sporadic conversation every so often. The hour goes by way too fast for my liking and before I know it, we’re standing in the middle of my office again. We’re lazily making out, his hands rubbing circles into my back while mine massage the back of his neck. I would love to just curl up on the couch and take a little afternoon nap with him.

“Okay,” he says as he breaks away from the kiss, “I better get going.”

“Do you have to?” I whine as I bury my head in the crook of his neck.

“I wish I didn’t, but I need to look over a few things at the office and sign off on a few others.”

“Can’t you do that tomorrow?”

“No, I need to get some of them done today. Plus I need to wait for my dad to fax over the signed contract between your company and ours to keep a copy at this office.”

“And to look over it one last time.”

“Yes. Your dad had a few conditions of his own before he would sign. So I need to see what they were. You know, to keep up to date with the whole thing.”

“Why are you even in school anyways? I’m sure you can start working for your dad now and you’ll be perfectly fine.”

“I want to have my degree. My dad originally wanted me to start at the company right out of high school, but I told him I wanted to continue on with my studies. So really it’s purely for my benefit that I’m in school. You can never learn too much right?”

“I guess,” truthfully, I wasn’t as fond of school as Minho was, “You really are a bookworm.”

“I never denied that I wasn’t.”

“I know, but when you talk like this, it shows more.”

“If you say so.”

“Well you on the field is totally different than you in class,” he just shrugs in response.

“I really do need to get going sweetie,” he says, resting his chin on the top of my head.

“I don’t want to let go yet,” I tighten my grip on him.

“I know, but the sooner we both finish our work, the sooner we can be back at your apartment. Relaxing with each other.”

“I guess,” I pull away from him enough so that I can pucker my lips at him and he’d see it. He gives a short laugh before quickly giving me a kiss.

“I’ll see you back at the apartment?”

“Why don’t you come here once you’re done and we can go home together?”

“You sure you don’t have a ton of work to get down? I mean I’ll probably be at the office for three hours tops.”

“That’s fine. I just want to go home with you tonight.”

“Okay. I’ll see you in a few hours then,” he leans in and gives me another quick kiss. It’s not until five minutes later that he actually leaves my office. It might have been my fault though, I kept on pulling him back for more loves. He teased me about how affectionate I was, borderline overly affectionate. I couldn’t help it though, I just got that why when I was around Minho. I was never that way with any of my past girlfriends, Sulli included, it was just with Minho that I couldn’t get enough loving from him. And he never denied me either, always giving in to me. He really spoils me, not that I’m complaining. I like him spoiling me and I think he enjoys it too.

The next few hours fly right on by since I have quick back to back meetings with the marketing and sales departments of the company. They pretty much brief me on what’s going on with them. I get the latest marketing plans and advertisement as well as the current sales and projected sales for the next two months. We discuss what’s going well with each department and what we need to work harder on. We start to develop game plans to assure improvements in each department. I’m pretty tired when I get back to my office and could really use the nap more than ever.

I’m not surprised when I see Minho is already back in my office though. He’s laying out on the couch, hands behind his head, eyes closed, jacket slung over the chair beside him, tie loosened, and vest unbuttoned. He looked very comfortable. I’m almost tempted to climb on top of him and just fall asleep.

“Ms. Kang let me in,” he says, eyes still closed.

“How long have you been here?”

“Five minutes?”

“Ah, I see. How did it go at the office?”

“Fine. Nothing special. A lot of reading and a lot of signing. Kind of boring actually. How were your meetings?”

“How’d you?”

“Ms. Kang.”

“Oh right. They were fine. I’m tired now. I just want to go home.”

“Then let’s go home. Call it a day and let’s bounce.”

“I just need to check my e-mail and send out one to my dad about the meetings then we can leave.”

“Okay. Take your time. I’m perfectly comfortable here on the couch. I might fall asleep though.”

“Rub it in why don’t you,” I grunt as I sit behind my desk and bring up my e-mail.

“You can join me too if you want,” he lifts his arms up into the air, welcoming me into his embrace.

“I have work to do,” I say sadly, wanting nothing more than to fall into those arms.

“Suit yourself. Wake me up when you’re done.”

“Just try not to snore.”

“I don’t snore.”

“Yes you do.”

“No I don’t.”

“Minho, we sleep together all the time, I think I would know if you snore or not.”

“Jazzy’s never said anything.”

“That’s because she’s a heavy sleeper like Onew hyung.”

“True. Not anymore though. She wakes up to Yoogeun’s cries.”

“From what I heard, he has quite the lungs on him.”

“True. Shouldn’t you be working, not talking to me?”

“Why did you have to remind me?”

“Because I want to go home already.”

“Did you get that soccer uniform?”

“Finish your work!” he slightly raises his voice and I laugh at how he sounds like my old middle school teacher.

“Answer the question and then I’ll stop,” he doesn’t answer though. Just points to the chair where his jacket was discarded. I look over at it and I see that a shopping bag is resting right beside his bag.

*~*

“So she’s going to meet us at the restaurant then?” I overhear Onew ask Key and he just nods. We’re close to finishing up on the video. We just have the last part of the rooftop scene to finish and then we’re done. The scene is simple enough. It’s just me finally able to get to the girl I’ve been pursuing all through the club. We have our little moment in which I brush her cheek and make to kiss her, but not really. I get close, but our lips never meet, which is the end of the video. I was fine with it, I don’t know how I feel about kissing Sekyung, even if it was just acting.

It’s an hour later and the Jinwoon is calling it a wrap. Everyone starts clapping, Yoogeun included a big smile on his face as his tiny hands come into contact with each other, “Aigo, my son is so cute.” I give him a kiss on the cheek and he smiles at me.

“So are we ready to go?” Key asks as he gathers everything up.

“Yeah, just let me go and change real quick,” I try to hand Yoogeun over to Onew since he’s the closest to me, but he immediately backs away. Hands up in the air and shaking his head furiously. I give him a strange look and take a step towards him, holding Yoogeun out to him. He just backs away more, falling over a chair.

“He’s not good with Yoogeunnie,” Key tells me, taking the baby from me, “Right Yoogeunnie? Onew hyung has some weird disease huh? That’s your strange hyung huh?”

I laugh and smooth down Yoogeun’s hair. Onew is only now getting up of the floor, brushing off the invisible dirt from his clothes. He walks back over to us, “I told you. I’m more of a sidelines kind of person when it comes to Yoogeun.”

“I didn’t know you were that bad though hyung,” I tease, “He won’t bite you.”

“He has bit me before though.”

“He doesn’t have any teeth.”

“Yes he does.”

“What like two of them? I doubt it hurt.”

“But he still bit me.”

“Whatever hyung,” I pat him on the back and laugh, “I’ll be right back.”

I walk away laughing just as Yoogeun grabs at Onew jacket refusing to let it go. It takes me longer than I wanted to change and get back to them. I was stopped by a good amount of people, giving me compliments and wishing me luck on my career. It’s a little over half and hour when I’m back with them. Onew’s jacket is now off and resting in the stroller.

“He wouldn’t let go, so I had to take off my jacket,” he explains as I look at him and then the jacket.

“You could have just shook his hand off you. He’s not that strong yet.”

“I tried to get Key to help me, but all he did was laugh. Some boyfriend you are,” he complains.

“Yeobo, you’re so funny though. You act like Yoogeun is some serial killer or something. He’s a cute and harmless little baby,” Key responds and kisses Yoogeun’s cheek.

“Aren’t you supposed to kiss me after saying that and not the baby?” Onew pouts.

“Oh I’m sorry. You can get a kiss too,” he pecks the older on the lips.

“Get a room,” I murmur and grab my son out of Key’s arms, “Let’s go to dinner now. I’m starving. Are you hungry too Yoogeunnie? I bet you are. Don’t worry appa will feed you in a little bit.”

We walk out of the warehouse. I’m in front with Yoogeun in my arms, while Key and Onew stay behind, arms linked as Onew pushes the stroller. We arrive at Onew’s car and Key helps me get Yoogeun in his car seat. I slide in next to him, while Onew and Key sit in the front. He’s starting to fuss though.

“He doesn’t like being in his car seat. You’ll have to entertain him if you don’t want him screaming the whole way there,” Key says from the front seat, “I think he has a few toys in his baby bag.”

I grab the baby bag and place it on my lap. His cries are progressively getting louder and louder. I quickly pull open the zipper and start to sift through the contents. Blanket, clothes, bib, pacifier, diapers, wipes, extra bottles, formula, snacks, and finally I spot the stuffed raptor he was holding in the picture Jazzy sent me last night. I pull it out of the bag and hold it up to him. He grabs the toy from my hand and hugs it close to his body. I smile at the sight of him.

“Who gave him this?” I ask as I move the arms of the doll around, playing with him.

“Jazzy.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, she saw it while we were baby shopping before she gave birth. She said she had to have it for him since he had taken to calling him the little raptor while he was still inside her.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah.”

“I wish I could’ve been there when he was born.”

“You’re here now, I guess that’s all that matters.”

“Wow.”

“What?”

“That has to be the nicest thing you’ve said to me since I got back.”

“Don’t get used to it dino boy.”

“And now the moment is ruined.”

“There was on moment to ruin.”

“Times two.”

“Shut up.”

“Times three.”

“Ugh whatever.”

I laugh, “I’m just joking with you. You know I love teasing you. You’re such an easy target.”

“Yah Kim Jonghyun, don’t make me throw you out of this car. I don’t car if it’s moving either.”

“You wouldn’t do that.”

“Try me.”

“Quit bickering,” Onew says in a stern father-like voice and we both shut up. We’re pulling up in front of the restaurant soon and we all climb out. Key helping me with Yoogeun’s car seat. I was going to get the hang of it one day. We walk over to the entrance and I see Jazzy standing there waiting for us. She gives us a wave. Her smile getting brighter when she spots Yoogeun. I feel my breath leave me as I look her over. She’s even more beautiful now. Her smile at the sight of her son was mesmerizing. She quickly walks over to us, smile never leaving her face.

“Yoogeunnie!” she exclaims as she stops right beside me. Her hand comes up and brushes his hair out of his face, “Umma missed you so much! Did you have fun today though? Did you enjoy spending time with Key umma and Onew appa? What about with your real appa? Did you enjoy seeing him work?”

I enjoy the warmth that comes from her body as she stands close to me. Yoogeun grasping her finger in his little fist. She’s continues to coo at him and I smile. I don’t realize it right away, but her hand comes up to my shoulder and grabs onto the strap of the baby bag. I smile at her when she takes it from me to carry it.

“Come on you two, let’s get inside. It’s too cold out here,” Onew complains as he begins to push both of our backs.

“You’re just hungry for some fried chicken oppa,” she teases, “Don’t worry, I made sure they had a whole bunch when I got here.”

We all begin to walk towards the building. Jazzy right beside me since Yoogeun refuses to let go of her hand. Our arms brushing against each other as a shiver runs down my spine, but not from the cold. Once we’re inside, we’re ushered to a table almost right away. I guess Jazzy had already given her name when she got here.

“Do you want to sit on the outside or inside?” I ask her when I see that our table was a booth. The waiter brings a seat over for Yoogeun and places it at the end of the table.

“I better sit on the outside so I can feed Yoogeun.”

“Okay,” I settle Yoogeun into the little chair before sliding into the booth. Jazzy slides in next to me, placing the baby bag in between. I start to think of a reason to move the bag because I didn’t want anything to be separating us. I’ll think of something. We all pick up the menus that were set on the table and start to browse the dishes for something to eat. Yoogeun doesn’t seem to like this one bit since no one is giving him any attention. So he decides to start crying, rather loudly I might add. Jazzy and I quickly drop our menus and reach over to him. The baby bag gets in my way so I move it over to my other side, sliding closer to Jazzy as I reach out to my son. He grabs one of our fingers in each of his hands and smiles.

“Aigo, Yoogeunnie,” she says, “You just need to be the center of attention all the time. I wonder who you get it from?”

“Probably from me,” I tell her as I wave my finger that he has up and down.

“Probably,” we both wiggle our fingers free once he’s calmed down and go back to your menus only to have him start up again. This time Jazzy stands up and unbuckles him from the seat and lifts him up. She slides back into the booth with a now calm baby in her arms. She opens up the menu that’s on the table and starts to looking through it again. Yoogeun starts to grab at it and pull it closer to them and she just places her hand on it and moves it back to where it was. He seems to think it’s some of game because he continues to do it, laughing the whole time. I’m amazed at how she just doesn’t seem bothered by it. I would have gotten annoyed, but she’s just as calm as ever.

I bring my hand up and smooth his hair. He turns to look at me before grabbing onto my hand.

“Aw,” I’m broken out of my trance at the sound of Key’s voice, “I have to get a picture of this.”

Before I can even say a thing or even bring my head up to make eye contact with him, a small flash goes off. I look up at him and he’s smiling from ear to ear. Onew takes his hand and turns it so he can see the picture and a smile forms on his face as well.

“Let me see it,” Jazzy and I both say at the same time. I look over at her and notice the blush starting to form on her cheeks. They just smile some more and Key turns the phone to face us. In the picture, Jazzy is looking down at the menu, arm wrapped tightly around Yoogeun, while me and him are looking at each other with smiles on our faces.

“Ugh,” Jazzy says, “I totally look like the neglectful mother. Take another one Key.”

“You look fine Jazzy,” he assures her.

“Don’t lie. Take another one.”

“Fine,” he smirks and turns his phone back around, “Okay everyone get close now.”

I scoot in closer to her and place an arm around her shoulder. She flinches at my touch at first, but quickly relaxes into it. I pull her a little closer and Yoogeun is squeezed between us.

“Perfect. Now everyone smile,” Key exclaims, “Hold on, Yoogeun look over here. Look at Key umma. No not at Onew appa. Key umma.”

Jazzy and I laugh and then both our heads come down so we can talk to our son. We both start to point and tell him to look at Key. It doesn’t work though. His focus is on Onew for some reason. We all turn our heads to the oldest and then we see why he’s looking at him. Onew currently has one hand clamped over his mouth while shaking the other up and down.

“Onew oppa, what did you do this time?” Jazzy asks.

“Nothing, I’m fine,” he mumbles behind his hand.

“Yeobo,” Key grabs the hand he’s shaking and starts to exam it, “What happened?”

“I slammed my hand against the table.”

“How?”

“I was trying to bring my hands to my lap.”

“And apparently you missed and hit the table instead.”

“Yeah."

"Oh my poor baby,” Key brings the hand up to his mouth and places a soft kiss on it, “All better now?”

“Yes,” and Onew smiles as Key brings his lips to meet his mouth this time.

“Okay, can we take the picture now?” I ask.

“Right, picture,” Key holds his phone up again, “Yoogeunnie, look at Key umma.”

And this time he does since Key is now holding up the stuffed raptor. We scrunch together again. One of my cheeks resting on one side of Yoogeun’s head while one of Jazzy’s rests on his other side.

“Smile!” and we do right before another flash goes off. Key and Onew both exam the picture soft ‘aw’s falling from their lips. Key turns it to face us once again and I can’t help but smile. Like I thought last night, we make one good looking family.
