"It's not that simple," Rosalind said, trying to find words to explain that didn't sound like excuses to her own ears, with her sister on the line, when they normally were perfectly good reasons. "It's not as easy as calling in sick to school."
"I did not," she said flatly, a chill in her voice. "Just that it might be impossible. I do not know yet, Elena."
She wasn't sure, for one, if Tseng would permit her back on Gaia while she was still recovering from her coma. It rather--defeated the purpose of having sent her away in the first place, did it not?
Formal phone greetings were stupid. But Dad yelled if she just said "Hello."
Some day, she might even learn to wait until she had the receiver at her mouth, to start talking, so that her last name didn't get cut off.
