Here be piccies of what happened when Harry met Sally... err, I mean when
the tree met my parents' house and deck. I gotta be honest, I don't know if these pictures do it justice. It was impossible to get the whole scene in one shot. When I first arrived and was trying to take it all in, I couldn't help but say out loud "That was one Big A** Tree!" My Dad, who I did not realize was standing behind me at the time said "No. It was an Oak".... BWAH!!!! I'm going to tell myself he thought I said it was a big Ash Tree and leave it at that.
But behold. Pictures of the devastating devastation...
I had to stand in the neighbor's yard to get this shot and still could not get the whole tree in the frame
This shows a bit more, but still, not the whole thing. Pretty much, their whole yard is tree. Way in the back ground you can see some of the tree trunk that's still standing. All that open sky used to be tree.
I tried yet another angle and still could not get the whole thing in frame. Seriously Big A** "ASH" Tree!
The big split in the wood makes it almost look like lightning hit. But nope. Just the wind. Seriously Big "Ash" Wind!
What's left of the deck. See that piece of wood sticking up. That's part of the base. For some reason it cracks me up that the bottom part is now sticking up on the top.
And here's what's left of the deck swing... which was a nice peaceful place to sit and rock until the tree decided to take a seat. Again, I'm just amazed at how things that once were below are now above. The canopy seems to be under the seat part now.
You can't see any of the patio. Those black tiles are actually bits of roof. The patio was a nice grey concrete... it's completely covered.
There's the hole in the roof with bit of gutter twisting in the wind. It almost looks like Godzilla came stomping through, thought the house was made of Gingerbread and took a bite.
The other side of the roof is ok. Except for the one lone branch that impaled it. It kind of cracks me up how normal it all looks from this side except for that one branch just sticking out there going "Hello!"
Parents' Evil Cat does not approve of my sense of humor.
So there be it! The Devastating Devastation. Which, really all things considered could have been so much worse. No one got hurt. It's not a total loss (well... for the tree it is) and what's broke can be fixed or replaced. So Amen and Whew to that.
