Don't really know about it being winning material for Con, since I've not paid much attention to who wins, just the actual showing of the stuff. :) But I think being creative and making a cool looking costume is probably better as far as Con is concerned, since it's sci-fi/fantasy and not really looking for historically accurate. Your historically accurate stuff is amazing, but I think it's a bit lost on people who are in it for the fantasy - we can all appreciate how cool a costume is, but how many of us can appreciate how historically accurate one is?

So, I say go for it. It looks really cool, and I think that's the best part of Con costume contests. :)

Have you tried TrulyVictorian.com ? Also, maybe instead of a cage bustle, you could just make a stuffed bustle pad? It'd be cheaper b/c you wouldn't have to buy boning, just some polyfill. Another thought, check out some of Simplicity's "sexy" costume patterns. They might have 1 that could work with some modifications.

Someone on the TV message board posted a similar project idea so you could always check it out and get some further help/ideas.

I know of Truly Victorian, but I haven't looked at it for this particular project yet. And I don't want a stuffed bustle-- the cage bustle I've picked out has the shape I want, and I'll use plastic tubing instead of steel so cost isn't as much of an issue. I'm not really looking for patterns at the moment, but thanks for the recommendations.

I'll definitely check out the message board though, thanks for the head's up.
