I also don't donate to charities who call my home, but I will consider door knocking charities if it's a cause I know. Unfortunately, you hear too many stories of people who impersonate charity collectors and abscond with the money so I've picked my causes and donate directly to them.

Not only because people unrelated to the charity can knock off your money, but I consider any charity who employs door-to-door sellers (mostly teenagers, earning $120 commission for every $150 agreement that they get signed) to be knocking off the money anyway.
I don't care if the Fred Hollows Foundation and the Red Cross justify this by saying that the money donated in the second, third and fourth years goes to those in need. Stop paying people to knock on my door and hassle me in shopping centres. We all know how to work the internet.
