Ahh football, you are ever increasingly becoming outdated

I was going to post about the environment today but then, amongst all the news headings about footballers getting done for cocaine possession and violence both on and off the field and what not, one idiot man stood out from amongst the other idiot men of his clan and said this:

The AFL is not ready for openly homosexual players - Jason Akermanis ( Read more... )

This is spot on.

Homophobic men are usually sexist men. They know how awful/hateful/threatening their internal thoughts are about women (friends or strangers).

They assume that gay men think the same about them which is what makes them uncomfortable.

So yet again, what you despise most is yourself

Yes. They see men as rapists and women as rapees and feel like gay men accept the roles of women while at the same time wanting to rape them.

It isn't exactly logical.

Haha, you want AFL players to be more like other men?

Politicians, perhaps?

That's sad:

And then, this bright, capable woman, who I know to be ready and able to do great things for our community and nation, said this: "I don't know why I even went to college; if this is how people treat you, what's the point?"

I do know though the sentiments of that. It reminds me a bit of your story for Sprawl. The overtones of your story, anyway.

Yeah. Imagine how much more bitter it would have been if I lived in Ohio :)

Oh, and I lived in the Northern beaches and was a Manly supporter when Ian Roberts came out and I don't remember it being a problem. The opposite, in fact.

"Imagine the publicity associated with a current player admitting he's gay. It would be international news."

Yeah, the man needs to get out more if he thinks a footy player coming out would make the Straits Times or Le Monde.

Daft. The whole thing. Daft.

Maybe Akermanis does see it as his job or in his power and he's saying this ain't gonna happen.

I hope a ton of people come out tomorrow and then wander past and pinch Akermanis' bum. Or maybe everyone should from now on when they encounter Akermanis, slap him playfully on the bum and then say "Gay or straight? What do you reckon?"
