I have been dipping my toes back into the treacherous waters of fandom again. Looks warm, look safe, then all of a sudden something grabs you and whoomph! you're dragged under.
Let me explain.
I went to see Inception last week. Then I went to see it again. What an amazing film! Fic was needed, so off I prowled. My favourite so far is

I really, really love hackthis's GK fic, and some of the fic in that fandom in general. It's what made me look up the miniseries, which is excellent but a little darker than I like to watch. I rec'd some of my favourites over here. It's a small fandom so you may have already read them. I got most of my fic off this GK master list, and I also love this Yuletide story by sparky77 because it makes me laugh, so much!
(I actually read those books until they fell to pieces. True. They to are about war in the desert, and there is a sequence about training with guns but no ammunition. The soldiers have to pull a string and shout "bang" - it's good for morale.)
I can just picture that--hilarious and wrong. War is so screwed up.
There is also Alexander Skarsgard, and that is not a bad thing, either.
So true!

I can't believe I missed all your GK recs! I feel a little bit ashamed of myself. However, because I went on a bit of a fic binge, I had read most of them. I very much agree about the Yuletide one. As usual, I'm on the minor characters (much as Brad and Nate are epic).
This is a Ray/Doc story, would special just for its rarity value, even if it wasn't sweet with some cracking lines.
Have you read this Firefly/GK crossover? Voices are spot on.
I am quite excited to be back in fandom.

I did some reading. I hadn't come across any of your recs before. The GK/Firefly x-over was very funny and Ray with a baby is made of win. Have you read Carrying Dangerous Goods by novembersmith? It was a rec from Sally and it's one of my favourite stories of the year. It's a GK/Temeraire x-over, so the GK characters are part of the British Aerial Dragon Corps during the Napoleonic Wars, and Ray has a baby girl. She's a dragon. <3
I loved (Loved!) the mercurial-wit story. Loved! It's maybe my favourite Inception story? No, that's not true, there are too many to choose from. But it's up there. The writer was not only fantastic with the characters but she explored the inception technology even further, did backstory and futurestory for the movie, etc. It was beautiful.
I always like ethrosdemon's writing, she's very intelligent and unique. ( ... )
