I'm a bit behind on the books so far this year.

1.  Sidetracked (a Wallander book) - Henning Mankell. I loved the tv version of this, and I knew whodunnit, so I wasn't sure what I'd make of the book. But I bloody LOVED it. Loved how detailed and descriptive and readable and interesting it was. It didn't disagree with anything in the tv version (well ( Read more... )

Your post is made of lol. I can't tell you what you're missing I'm afraid.

Well I can - a new book :)

You're still doing better than me on books, I haven't finished one yet this year. I blame Wicked. I feel almost the same way about it as you do about The Road, so I'm sort of sticking. Still going, but slowly.

Oh god I struggled inch by painful inch through the last couple of hundred pages of Wicked. Do Not Recommend.

i have heard that it is still worth reading the wallanders even if you know whodunnit before, probably from the docco. i am looking forward to the descriptions.

i bought the first two for myself and my brother, as well as the first two of the martin beck series - since i haven't read any of either of them i thought i would do it in order, though i read rebus out of order and nothing bad happened. annoyingly both series come with matching spines, but being suddenly famous it is impossible to get the vintage version of faceless killers for a reasonable price at the moment. however, tesco do a different imprint for cheap so i think i will COMPROMISE. booes.

Wallander's books a pretty fantastic, and Sidetracked was my first Wallander. :) Have you read "One Step Behind"? It's a little earlier in the series, but it's also very good.

... later actually, now that I've checked. Sidetracked is the 5th, One Step Behind the 7th...

You're almost making me want to read The Road just because your rant made me laugh so much. But I think I might hate it for the same reasons you do, so I won't.

If you are in any libraries, get a copy and read a couple of pages. I like the IDEA of it all, but I'm hating the way it's been done.
