Question for the brits on my flist

Jun 07, 2011 14:12

What sort of fashion magazines might a young adult female in London have read in the early to mid 1970s? It would be geared toward girls who were late teens and very young adult women? Does anyone know what was popular in print in London at that time?

Thanks for any help!

Oh dear. I can only think of Jackie but that was really a younger market - younger than late teens really.

Bunty for wee lassies, Jackie for teens and NME, Cosmo & Woman Realm (the latter was not trendy but v practical) none of these were just for London but other than Time Out I can't think of a London mag even today. Hope this helps - Toodles

Oh I wasn't looking for London specifically. It's just the location of my character. Thanks!

Just Seventeen? (I know this was around in the 80s, not sure when it started)

"Jackie" and "Honey" were the magazines that got passed around at school when I was a teen in the 70's. Jackie was really popular as it had fashion, agony columns, real life romance in photo tales and big centrefolds of pop stars like David Cassidy and The Osmonds! Ah the memories!
I also remember a pop magazine called "It's Here and Now" that gave away free flexidiscs and stuff. That was incredibly popular as girls copied the looks that the pop stars were wearing - especially hair styles amd makeup.
Pop music was of incredible importance to young adult women at that time as most other forms of entertainment such as film tv etc ignored them completely.

David Cassidy and Donny Osmond. Heeee. On behalf of American entertainment, I apologize for those exports. ^__^

Oooh, "It's Here and Now" sounds ideal for what I'm thinking. Thank you soooo much!
