Thank goodness for quiet mornings, because I have a stack of papers to grade. I figure if I can get at least seven done today, this will put me at a good pace for finishing them the rest of the week. So far no "gems" to share with you, but a few surprisingly enjoyable ones. Yay ( Read more... )

Walkers crisps? Exotic and exciting?

Headdesk :oZ

Our weekend was quiet as we were recovering from Shropshire (first lot of pics are up) and a certain person wanted to watch the international rugby which started this weekend.

Meantime, I cooked a potato and mushroom gratin- got the recipe from my French food mag and it was yummy :o)

I know. Ordinary crisps. But, well, there was pickled onion in the mix and we don't have that here.

I will have a look at pics in a bit. But can I get your recipe? Potato + mushroom + cheese = a kind of heaven, in my book!

I'll have to translate it from French for you

It's gratin de pommes de terre aux champignons- this'll serve 2 and you'll need:

2 large potatoes (about 500g) Leave the skin on if you like it.
Mushrooms (about 250g- girolles and/or cepes if you can get them although field mushrooms will work fine)
Parmigiano 100g
A little milk (2-3 tablespoons)
double cream (around 15cl)
4-5 leaves of sage (dried will do)
2 cloves of garlic
Olive oil, salt and pepper

Par boil the potatoes then slice into thin-medium slices
Sweat the mushrooms and garlic but dont let them colour
Mix the potatoes, mushroom, garlic and sage, salt and pepper in a shallow casserole and add the milk and cream then top with the parmigiano

Pop the lot into the oven uncovered at around 210c and cook for approx 20 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.

Serve up with a fresh baguette to mop up the sauce.

It freezes okay.

Enjoy! We found this simple little dish absolutely delicious :o)

Thanks!

Why do I end up loving everything they do?

Whyyyyyyy?

I can't stand 99% of Zappa's music, so I'm glad they did "Hello Little Deer." :)

Thanks for posting. It's nice to see most of them in the same space.

Aaah ha ha ha ha. IKR? I'm enchanted from the minute they walk on stage. I think "Hello Little Deer" sounds a LOT like a Zappa song, frankly. There's a clear influence, at any rate.

Have you seen the rest of the gig? Email me privately if you'd like a download link.
