Coeur de l'amour

One of the things I love about that little Italian cafe I frequent is this heavenly cookie with the surprise center. Something prompted me to treat myself today, to this little chocolate-centered source of love. It's beautiful, no?

I've been on a cookie craze recently, such a shame I live on the west coast. . .

Aw, well if there's one thing I've learned from travelling it's that every place has a special edible. I'm sure there's something you'd miss terrible while here. :-)

Oh yes, that sounds delightful. Perhaps I have inspired a new project? :D

The extraordinary thing about this cookie is the texture. The outside is crumbly. The chocolate center is gooey. But there are still little bits of chocolate that don't quite melt all the way down. So you have this combined mouth feel of crumble, goo and chocolate shaving in one. They probably use chocolate shavings in the center, come to think of it.

I don't know if they have a name, but I will ask.

And by all means, if we meet up some time when you're in the city I'll bring you one (or lead you to the cafe).

These cookies look very polished, with the fork-ridged top. If you didn't know they had a chocolate center, you would *never* guess.

It does sound rather time consuming, from your description. But oh, they are irresistible sometimes. And after the day I had today, I needed the treat. :-)

I think they may have ones with apricot centers too. So conceivably, jelly could work as well.
