"Dinner" (Jack, G)

Summary: Somebody's hungry, and letting Jack know about it.
Disclaimer: Not mine. Jack Abernathy is the creation of stellaluna_, and first came into existence in her story "Light from a Dead Star" and decided to take up permanent residence in my head.
A/N: This is a present for stellaluna_ who wanted something about Jack and a cat, who at some point in the discussions had gotten the name Boo. (and of course, she demanded I post her present for the world to see.) Oh, and this Jack didn't die in Kuwait City.
The tinny scrape of an empty can being nudged against the floor is just enough to get his attention, and he looks over to find a pair of blue eyes staring up at him expectantly.
"Hey Boo, whatcha want?" He crouches down and scraches between the cat's dark ears, and she arches her neck and purrs at him, pushing her head into his large hand. "'atsa girl. Where you been, huh?"
When he stops petting her, she looks back up at him with the expectant look from before.
She nudges the empty can again. "Miew."
"Miew?" he rumbles back, in a distinctly lower voice. "Whassat mean? You just got fed. Besides, I haven't seen no mice outta you for a while. Turnin' lazy on me, baby girl."
"Miew!" she says crossly, the tip of her tail flicking back and forth. His fingers dangle just nearby, and she nips at the tips of them to get his attention.
"Ow! Fine, fine. Don't have to be so demanding, you know," he grumbles as he gets another can of food out of the pantry.
She arches her back and wiggles her tail, purring as she watches him get the food and pop the lid, setting it down on the floor and picking up the old can.
"There, happy now?" He says, annoyance feigned more than anything else.
She inspects the can, sniffing it briefly, and moves over to rub against his ankles, purring loudly.
"Yeah, yeah, you're welcome. Still gotta work on the whole mousing thing, yeah? Earn your keep." He smiles, and gingerly steps over the cat as he leaves.
