That was to simply put it, beautiful.

It was as we all would like after death to be, I think. To reach beyond and help those we love, the concept was well written and the characters believable, in their thoughts and so much so in their pain.

I loved how you made Nathan feel, he was so "human" in his grief about those he left behind. In such a short piece you made the grief and loss vivid.

This is one I'll be coming back to again, especially when I want to see how Nathan could be when he was at his best, wherever/whenever he is.

Thank you. I am glad that it was able to resonate with you so strongly.

The nice thing about Nathan dissolving into gold bits is that we can't be completely sure that he's dead- although he's no longer with them in the normal sense. All of the people in his life would not just adjust to his absence so easily, and we didn't see much about it in canon so I do like to explore that aspect.

Nathan was always 'human'- he was just really good at hiding it from the world. ;-) It's another concept I like to explore in my work, and I've done so more than once.

This was great. Nathan seemed so much more compassionate after his death or maybe he was just more willing to "show" the emotions. You could feel the loss suffered by everyone, including Nathan, and that made this even more emotional. Beautiful work!

Thank you, glad you liked it so much.

You were right in thinking that Nathan was just more willing to show it- at this point he has absolutely nothing left to lose. He can show his feelings, be more compassionate, more expressive. He has nobody to intimidate or impress and is just left with himself and in his eyes, a chance to make up for inaction in the past.

Oh, this made me ache inside. I love Ghost!Nathan and how much he wants to take care of the people who are mourning him. I think you got the reactions of the main characters perfectly, and how they respond--or don't--to Nathan's attempts to reach them. I love Nathan trying to stop Henry from drinking himself to death, and how he succeeds. And his connection with Kevin, the way Kevin just accepts his presence.

And his interaction with Jack...amazingly intense, and beautifully conveyed. Well done.

Thank you, glad you liked it so much.

I always try very hard to keep to the characters true to form, no matter what circumstance they're in. Kevin was a fun one- because he gets forgotten about most of the time, and yet he'd have the most reason to be the one to still see Nathan- especially if he's not quite dead.

Oh wow. As much as I hated losing Nathan, it was lovely to see a fic where he redeems himself after death. Thanks so much for sharing that!

Thanks, glad you liked it.

I saw it as a way for him to do the stuff he felt guilt over not doing when he was alive, or the stuff he felt he should have.

LOL, now I have a new benchmark- will it make clarkoholic cry?

Yep, that's it exactly. Nathan's just too guarded to express it normally, but now that there's nothing for him to lose, he just goes for it. It totally depends on the receptiveness of the other person, but he can go for broke trying since he can't really do anything about his situation. I think people forget a lot of times that Nathan really is capable of love and affection, and that he had feelings, no matter how well he hid them.

I enjoyed putting Kevin in because he's too often ignored, and he has so many ways you can connect him with Nathan and make it work. Especially with the whole artifact connection with Kevin & Nathan.
