Okay, the shell, in and of itself, is beautiful to look at.
However, I am COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY HORRIFIED at the thought of the size of the snail that used to live in that.
(No, don't show me pictures. My nightmares don't need to be that specific.)
Also, hee! on Da. I can totally picture how she would have jumped up to investigate when she saw the shell. Her markings show up really nicely in these photos, too.
The shell is totally awesome. You'll have to pick it up and feel it when you're up here next-- it seems almost light for the size, and the inside is so wonderfully smooth because I found it so quickly.
Moon snails are teh awesome. Period. Predatory dominance FTW! :-D
She was being stinky! sniff sniff what got mama I want me help give kitty no take flashy...
But they did turn out real nice with her, and rather cute, so I'm not going to complain.
It really was one hell of a zucchini. And it isn't the only one, although so far the biggest.
Heeee. The shell, the zucchini, Da--all three are very cool. :D I've *seen* plenty of big shells, being down in Florida and all, but only in shops. The biggest shell I've found myself was, hmmm, an intact angel-wing clam (which didn't stay intact) about four inches long, and each half an inch at its widest point. I also have a big conch shell on my coffee table that I very much bought.
But yes, the shell is very very cool. And in theory, so is the gigantic snail that lived in it. But I wouldn't want to actually, say, touch the snail.
The giant zucchini amuses me vastly and for no reason that I can pinpoint.
It's the biggest univalve shell I've seen around here, but the geoducks and horse clams get bigger than that. (bivalves though) I ahve seen those big tropical conch shells that everyone can get.
Awww touching the snail is the best part! It feels neat, all muscle and slow movement. A bit on the slimy side though, but still really neat. They're predatory, and have the coolest 'hunting equipment', given they have no brain. :-)
It was really freaking big. Like WTF do I do with this big? But it made some good stuff despite the toughness. And a lot cause of the size. Big like woah.
The first picture is very Da. It's hard to understand her without experiencing her, (ask stel) but she is one of a kind for sure. And very much me want know mama, what that thing? Give kitty.
