[Private to Jim]

It's all right to leave your room now. But in the meantime, while no one else but us can read this, we should talk.

[Private to West]

How are you feeling?

[Private to Ben Wade]

We need to talk.

West, do you know why I took the door away?

Because even in spite of our most recent conversation, you don't actually trust me.

Major, your worst crimes came out of a point in time at the end of your life where you and literally everyone around you had gone insane. If the Barge is pulling in other people and things from that time, I have to take what measures I feel are necessary to be certain you don't slip back into that role. If you do, then I can't trust you.

...And I'm not certain I trust him, either.

So the only thing I can do right now is make certain that the two of you don't see each other until I know what's what.

Do you understand?

No one else can read this? That is... I mean... wow. These journal things are interesting!

... Yes I would love to talk. What was the emergency earlier? Is this place dangerous?

This place is as safe as any other, and as a Warden you're given certain privileges that help you to keep it safe.

I don't know if that fellow explained what your duty will be here, though you should have been told before you came. As a Warden you'll eventually be placed in charge of an Inmate.

The Inmate that I look after is one Major Henry West.

It's good to know what I am, at least. Tony and I were wondering. He tried explaining, something about reforming others, but... I don't think I'm the man for that particular job.

West?! He's here?! Oh my god--

[The shaky handwriting abruptly ends as Jim drops the journal. He spends the next several moments making sure that every lock is bolted on his door. For extra safety, he drags a desk over as a barricade, then a chair on top of that for good measure]

Now I want you to read what I'm saying to you very carefully, Jim. Henry West has been here for some months and he has made suitable progress, but any situation that's even vaguely resembled the hell you two came from throws him off course. Your arrival here hasn't created too many ripples, yet, but I sent you to your quarters and had him immediately confined just in case.

There's at least one other person on the barge that looks similar to you, and he did not react too well when he thought you were here the first time. I figured it was the safest option.
