I might argue that there are others who could contend for the funniest cartoonist -- like Gary Larson or Sergio Aragones -- but he was certainly among the funniest, and certainly the most unique cartoonist ever to grace a magazine. His sound effects alone could double you over with laughter. MAD was just never the same magazine after Martin left.

You'll notice I did say "if not the". :) The others you mention are great as well, and I could certainly add more, but not got the spit-takes that Don did. I quit reading MAD when he left.
