I'm in the paper!

A couple of weeks ago a newspaper team came to the Shakespeare Institute to spend the day. Today the results are published in The Independent. As always, the journalist has put a slant on it all. The only person there with a blue rinse is in her 20s. Actually, it's blue, pink and lilac. This pensioner is actually a student, for all my white hair - ( Read more... )

Sooo... are you one of the five?

You do indeed look very attentive. And there really is quite a mix of ages there, which IMO is great.

That library must be fascinating, I'm jealous of Karin Brown.

The library is wonderful. One smallish section has books that may be borrowed, but most of the 60,000+ are reference only, which means they are (very nearly) always where you expect to find them. We have some fabulous archives too, and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust has a whole lot more.

I'm not one of the five because I didn't put my name forward. I shall probably go down to Stratford on the day, though. That weekend usually has lots of events on anyway, and this year is a special anniversary - though, as Martin says, it's only a number. I'm so lucky to be able to study there - it has such a terrific "feel" to it.

I see you! Don't you look attractively scholarly!

I agree with you about the article, but yes, it's still a good bit of publicity.

Well, paying attention at least. ;-)

I think some of the academics will be exhausted by the end of the year, they are doing so much publicity.

I know - no mention of Martin Wiggins's shock of wild white hair, or Michael Dobson's bald dome; Karin is fair play, though. She's a Shakespeare scholar in her own right, as well as head librarian, so it's particularly irritating. No reference to Erin or Abigail either, the two female academics in the photo.

Oh, the library. I wish I could just a whole week there just basking in books. The whole place sounds so much fun.

It really is - there is so much fun and laughter as well as serious study. And the library is so, so cherishable.

They always do put the slant onto things so it fits their predetermined ideas...

It is a nice picture, though.

It is a nice photo, and good of almost everyone in it, which is very rare. Notice Our Guy Will in the window!

I think the journalist was a touch overwhelmed by the place. I like to put a kind interpretation on it.
