So, I'm 60. How in hell did that happen?

Seriously. I don't feel out of my twenties yet.

Many thanks to friends who sent me their good wishes. I've tried to thank people individually - if I missed you I'm sorry.

While Storm Desmond was soaking the country and causing all sorts of shenanigans Oop North, Dave and I went to meet the girls at a National Trust house in the Chilterns. ( Hughenden Manor. Picspam below. )

family, me, pretty places

How marvelous! I should love to visit Disraeli's digs someday myself.

You're not the least bit old, btw. 60 is the new 40, after all.

Dizzy was Wrong in many ways but so, so charismatic, and his house shows it.

Thanks. I feel creaky for 40, though. ;-)

It's the weather. We're all creaky when it's damp and chilly.

The weather has been spectacularly wet here this weekend, too. I'm hoping for a little sun in Barcelona.

Happy belated birthday!

Very wonderful pictures. I love visiting old houses and historical mansions, it is always fun to see how people loved, especially historical figures.

I was in Barcelona in 2000 for a few days and it was one of my favorite cities to visit. I adore all the Gaudi architecture and the whole atmosphere was just friendly and lovely. I got by without Spanish easily.

Thank you. I'm a bit of a languages nut, so I shall try to resurrect at least a little of my Spanish. I'm looking forward to it. What do you think is unmissable?

The cathedral, of course. Must see. I also really liked the park with Gaudi architecture called Park Guell and the Gaudi houses: Casa Battlo and Casa Mila. Amazing. And La Rambla Boulevard was really fun. We did stick to touristy stuff but it was worth it. And I remember just walking down the streets was fun by itself.
