Wow, a little research and I learn that four years after Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the death of children) Mahler's 4 year old daughter died of scarlet fever. It seems he had intended to place more of the 425 poems to music, but he couldn't deal with the pain of dealing with the subject afterwards
