Terry's upset again. Terry Pratchett is once again upset with JKR for selling more books than him writing books he doesn't like. He also apparently doesn't like something she said in one of her many recent interviews. (Join the club!) It appears, once again, he takes it personally.

Get over it, Mr. P. Many, many of us read, and even buy your ( Read more... )

I read about that. He's acting like a spoiled baby.

Predictable tantrums? So he's done this type of thing before?

Not that I've heard of. In fact, I'm pretty sure this isn't to be taken seriously.

Man, I knew someone on my flist would try to make it a matter of one of my fandoms against the other. Just stop it, why don't you? Can't we all love each other and embrace all the books we like? Or is that a bit too difficult for some people who need a wank-fest to wake them up in the morning?

Huh? Who's wanking? The guy's consistent you can give him credit for that. That having been said, I've read all his books too. I don't think he realizes just how much of an overlap there is between his "fandom" and hers.
I dunno, maybe that's a good thing. Maybe he'd be pissed at that.

Oh yeah. I think after either GoF or OoP he claimed to have invented wizards. Or something.

Speaking as someone who has never read TP, it actually didn't seem like he was angry at JKR--seemed like the media was playing it that way because it made for more drama. I thought he was annoyed at the stupid Time Magazine reporter's ignorant slams on fantasy. I mean, the one JKR quote I remember was the one about how maybe the unicorns etc. should have given her a clue she was writing fantasy and I agree with him--I don't believe for one second JKR thought she was writing anything other than what she was. It seemed like the original Time article was trying to build Rowling up by tearing the genre down, which is silly. She's being praised for inventing things that are pretty standard. So I can see that, were I a fantasy writer, I'd be equally annoyed at having somebody who was writing in my own genre used against me.

But then I don't know the history or anything with TP and HP.
