Ah Gillie - you are gonna get a whole huge heap of praise for his, and you'll be deserving of it too.

Just like the show, the whole M/I opening got me chuckling and kept me fooled as to how the story would develop; the invitation you did not send.
priceless.

and the darkening of the tone between them later - and their thoughts, it was very effective. And i like the way the 'cuts' got quicker as the tension built.

And meantime o'course you got every other character in the fic down and nailed and damn if it wasn't good to see Wash again - sometimes i forget how much i miss him!:)
"It's a good day to be Jayne"

actually true too! The Jayne and kaylee scenes were spot on; "set for me to shoot some fellas?"

well m'dear - the ammo is all yours, you are one fine writer GB!:) i really enjoyed that - a real pleasure to read.

oh yeah, there was a story too! :D :D

Thank you so much! Joss has them in such an interesting place at the beginning of the series; in love and miserable, the distance between them well entrenched for so many reasons, but they pull at each other and don't want to let go...it's fun to write preseries and examine how that might have come to be. Plus, preseries = WASH! and a little side trip to peek at what put Jayne outside the infirmary window in the pilot, keeping anxious, thuggy vigil...

well if you are to be the one filling the pre-series blanks - that sits just fine with me!:D

An Episode? hoperules January 30 2009, 17:25:42 UTC
This fic sure reads like an episode. Thanks for transporting me to the verse and taking me on an adventure with Mal and the crew!

Thank you very much for the lovely compliment! That is what this series grew from, my intense desire for more firefly, for a chance to see the crew go through their lives together.

Yay! More of your fic!!

I've said it before, but I just have to keep saying it: Everything you do with Mal and Inara so brings me back to the series and what it was that originally drew me to them and made me love them. The conflict that's always between them, and the conflict they have internally with themselves about each other, beautifully done.

And there was just some beautiful Inara snark in this one :oD Hee! Great dialogue!

Also very nice to see Inara and Wash get to have some scenes together. And the Jayne and Kaylee gun scene was excellent, a whole big jumble of mixed up feelings and wants and necessity in there.

Wonderful to see more of this series! I'm excited for the next part!!

Thank you! It's nice to get back to this series again. I wanted to write a chapter where we see Inara learning more about the risks and dangers of Mal's life, about how violence and even death are not uncommon. That has to be a factor in the distance they each feel between them.

And Wash, isn't he just the bestest? I have a preseries Wash/Zoe origin story I have to get back to someday, he is such an appealing character on a lot of levels.

The gun scene was almost 100% Omega - Jayne's words anyway, Omega walked me through the gun stuff step-by-step, it was almost a role-play, lots of fun and boy I was glad of the help.

Yes, I really liked Inara's sort of sudden slap in the face realization of what Mal's life really was, and how she'd willfully been ignoring it too!

And the roleplaying, that's always so much fun! It worked verwy well!

You know I love this but just to reiterate...

Mal's worry about Inara - he just can't help barging into her shuttle!

Wash! Such a treat to see him again - especially since he's written so damn well.

Jayne: his thoughts that he could just as easily be a part of Gallo's crew. So true! Way to bring back the merc that Jayne is. Not Mr. Selfless Hero.

Mal's mean comment about the Reavers staying away from paying clients. Oh, Mal!

Kaylee fretting. Inara hair fixing. Wash simmering. BTW, love, love his comment about war buddies. Excellent!

Mal's mean comment about the Reavers staying away from paying clients.

Yes, that was Mal, trying out for the interplanetary Asshat Olympic Team.
