I have no opinion on the Casey Anthony trial, but I do think more and more that a jury trial and justice overlapping are at the best outcome a lucky coincidence

It goes back beyond CSI, if you're interested give the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets a read. It's about Baltimore homicide cops in the late 80's. It's written by the same guy who created the Wire.
In that book they talk about the amazing ability of juries to take cases with overwhelming evidence and return a not guilty verdict or a reduced sentence because of things like lack of DNA evidence etc.
This was going on long before CSI and its ilk were ruling the television although I'd be interested to see if there's anyway to tell if it has gotten worse.
