Yes indeed! I came back from a two-week-old trip in Latvia. Yes, Latvia. A root-trip, with my grand-parents and father. The purpose of this trip was to find out more about my family there, or rather, the family that used to be there

The darkness lies within us all, and some things, painful as they are, are manipulated into 'good.'

I sympathise with you and your family, even though I have no experience of this.

Unfortunately, people tend to resist change far more when it's for the better, and that's what hurts the most. That people can advocate the worst crimes, and yet reject the fact that's it's their fault.

How horrible... to think that they would treat you without even simple respect. ;___;

It sounds like it was a really powerful trip - and even though it brought up such memories, it's good that there are still those who remember, and that you could see it through your grandfathers eyes.
Humans have this little tendency to forget lessons. *sigh*
