It was a common thing for Tidus to be strolling around the marketplace. He couldn't say he particularly enjoyed it, but it didn't bother him, so it turned into a common thing for him. Either he was working, or he was with Yuna, or he was in the market. It was the same usual routine, in a way.

Today, however... something struck him as strange. He could hear music. This threw his normal routine off, and for some reason the soft playing drew Tidus to it.

He was even more surprised to find a little girl playing a flute. It seemed odd. Well, not odd to see a child without any parents. It seemed to be common nowadays... But this girl seemed, different somehow. And if Tidus was prone to one thing, it was talking to people he didn't exactly know.

"Hey, uh... Are you lost?"

A sentance made her stop and look up fully at the man approaching her. Well, he seemed friendly enough, and friends were good right? Right!

"Hey, uh... Are you lost?"

"lost? Me? No way!" She offered him a wide grin as she spoke. "I was just bored so I thought I'd like.. y'know...find out what's happening around here."

She watched him for a little longer then put her flute into her pocket.

"But y'know.. if you're bored or sommat... you could show me around anyway." Scuffing her foot on the ground. Ok so she was bored, maybe he was too, maybe that was why he had chosen to speak to her.

"I'll play you a song if you do." She offered him hopefully.

Tidus offered the girl a small smile. Kids were cute. And this one was obviously desperate for attention. Though cautious, Tidus decided that there was no way this cute little girl was going to pull a knife on him, so he figured he'd be fine.

"Sure. But we haven't even properly introduced ourselves. I'm Tidus." He held out his hand toward her. Maybe she just wanted a friend. "It's very nice to meet you."

Her grin widened even further if that was even possible as she took his hand shaking it eagerly, small fingers wrapping around his hand tightly, well.. tightly for a kid anyway.

"I'm Eiko! Eiko Carol! It's a pleasure to meet you Tidus Sir!"

Always show politeness until told not to, that had been granda's rule and that was Her rule too!

"Does this mean you're gonna show me what's in this town?" Her voice hopeful, eyes wide and shining with delight. "I haven't been here for a year now so I bet there's lots happened... and and.. doesn't that statue look so pretty?"

"You don't need to call me 'sir'..." he mumbled, awkwardly. He wondered where she came from. He glanced at the statue that she mentioned, as if he'd never seen it before.

"Sure, it's just fine."

He scratched the back of his neck. Did Eiko have any parents? Guardians? He doubted it, but there was no way he was going to ask. He thought that question was personal, and a touchy suject for any child in Gilgamesh City.

"I'll show you around, sure. Are you hungry or anything?" He figured he could buy her food if she wanted. Despite what people thought about him, Tidus was honestly a thoughtful and generous person.

Her eyes widened further. There! She had Known he would turn out to be a friend! "ok Tidus!" She giggled slightly at saying an adult mans name without the Sir attached, but he did not seem to be That old so maybe it was all right anyway?

He looked puzzled about something, but she figured if he was worried about anything he'd just ask, until then it wasn't her problem.

Was she hungry? She considered the question, it was true she had eaten breakfast in the Church this morning... but like any child who had been active she was ready by now to eat again, so she nodded eagerly. "Yeah! I wouldn't mind lunch!"

Tidus nodded back to Eiko. Some part of him hoped Yuna would find them. He had a feeling they'd get along quite well.

"Okay. Is there anything in particular you like?" he asked, leading her into the market with a smile on his face.

He was enjoying this girl's presence, he truly was. He'd always liked children - they weren't so complicated and judgemental. They did things without questioning themselves, without having to give reasons why. They seemed so much happier than adults, too.

Tidus wished he was still that young.

"mmm... " She considered for a moment or so, before responding cheerfully "Anything hot!"

She followed at his heels for a few moments, then deciding that she would lay claim on this new friend of hers slipped a hand around his arm half pulling herself up with each step she took.

Friends were great, friends that fed you were fantastic! She wondered how Seymour Sir would take to this man if she introduced him as her new friend. She had to bet that the Maester would be so pleased she was grown up enough to make adult friends! Look how great she was!!

If Tidus knew just what was going through Eiko's head at that moment, he might have reconsidered. Luckily he didn't, so he continued on his way.

When she wrapped his arm around his, he thought of it as a cute gesture and didn't think too much on it. He was right; Yuna would definitely like her. Maybe he could introduce them or something.

Then again, he didn't know anything about this little girl. As they neared a place that sold 'hot food,' Tidus decided to kill two birds with one stone.

"Do your parents know you're here?" He hoped that if she didn't have parents, she wouldn't get upset. The last thing he wanted to do was upset little girls.

She stopped in her tracks at that question, before offering him a grin.

"Oh my mom and dad went missing just after I was born.. then Granda raised me.. he probably wouldn't approve of what I'm doing.. but then he never approved of anyone.. but he.. well he died.. then I was taken in by a kind gentleman who lives in the church, and I bet he'd just be pleased I was making friends."

She wrinkled her nose in thought. "The Church guardians probably wouldn't be impressed.. but they probably wouldn't be impressed that I snuck out either so that's ok!"

Having updated him on her current situation, she linked her hand through his arm again and tugged him towards the building she could see with the food through the window.

"Now do we get lunch?"
