Buffy sighed as she stared out the window of the cabin. The gently falling snow was beautiful, but without someone to share it with, it wasn’t the same. “Maybe I should just go home,” she muttered. Still, she sat by the window, watching the snowflakes drift through the air before gently landing on the snow covered trees. “It is peaceful here. I guess I could work on those meditation exercises Giles showed me.”

She sat on the plush rug facing the fireplace. The warmth of the fire helped her relax, as did the scent of the burning wood. It was apple wood, one of her favorites. It burned hot and smelled wonderful. Before long, she’d forgotten her troubles as she concentrated on getting in touch with her Slayer senses.

There wasn’t much to sense near the cabin, just a few wild animals. So she reached out further and felt something familiar. She wasn’t able to determine what she was sensing, but it wasn’t evil, and it felt human. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to wonder if it might be her friends arriving late. She lost hope when she realized she was sensing only one person. She thought she should know who it was. The person felt so familiar, but she couldn’t hold on to the feeling long enough.

Suddenly a shiver ran through her, breaking her concentration. She opened her eyes to see that the fire had gone out. “Great,” she mumbled as she stood. “How long was I sitting there?” She looked around for a moment. “I really need to remember to wear a watch.” Looking out the window, she saw that the snow had stopped falling and the sun was trying to peek out from behind the clouds. “Well, there’s still some time before sunset.”

She pulled on her boots, coat and gloves and went in search of more firewood. “I know there’s a woodshed here. If I can just remember where …” She walked through the snow towards the rear of the cabin. It wasn’t too cold, and the wind wasn’t blowing. So she took her time, enjoying the sight of the fresh snow that covered everything. Here and there she saw fresh animal tracks. “If Giles was here, I bet he could tell me what animals made each of them.” She sighed, heavily. “I really wish -”

Something hit her in the middle of her back. She spun around and was immediately hit on her thigh by a snowball. “What the ...?” She looked up and saw Giles standing several feet away, holding another snowball.

“Hello, Buffy,” Giles said, smiling as he pulled his arm back.

Buffy didn’t waste time trying to figure out how or why Giles was there. Instead, she ran and just missed getting hit again. She dove behind a large tree and scooped up snow. By the time she had a few snowballs made, she heard a boot crunch the snow nearby. She popped out from behind the tree and threw two snowballs in quick succession. The first missed, but the second hit Giles square in the chest.

Giles recovered quickly and threw another at her. As she turned and ran, it hit her in the ass. “You know,” she shouted. “This means war.” Giles didn’t respond, and she strained to try to hear him. Quietly, she continued to make snowballs. She stopped when she thought she heard something behind her. Slowly, she turned to look. It was a mistake. A snowball came flying from the direction she had been facing and hit her shoulder.

Buffy couldn’t take it anymore. It was obvious that Giles was much more skilled at this than she was. ‘So I do it my way,’ she thought. She closed her eyes and stretched out her Slayer senses, blocking out everything but Giles. He hit her with several more snowballs, but she didn’t react. He called out to her once, but she didn’t respond. She began to feel his worry, and she smiled at that. ‘Falling right into my trap,’ she mused silently.

“Buffy?” Giles asked. “Are you alright?”

When he was only a few feet away, she stepped in front of him. “Just fine,” she said as she grabbed the front of his coat and shoved a snowball inside. Before he could react, she turned and ran. She was surprised when he caught up with her quickly. He grabbed her arm, and she spun around to face him.

He was closer than she thought, and she lost her balance. They tumbled to the ground, Giles on his back and Buffy on top. Buffy burst out laughing. At first, Giles glared at her, but he soon began laughing himself. Neither of them thought to move. It seemed perfectly natural to be lying in the snow together and laughing.

When the snow started to fall around them, the laughter stopped, and Buffy found herself staring down at Giles. Her face was only a few inches from his. She could feel his breath on her face. “Giles?”

“Buffy,” he whispered.

She leaned down until her lips almost touched his. Then, taking a deep breath, she smashed her last snowball against the top of his head.

Giles growled as she sprang to her feet and ran off.

Giles caught up with Buffy as she reached the woodshed. He was breathing hard.

“Gotta tell you, Giles,” Buffy said as she opened the door to the shed. “You need to work out more. That amount of running should not leave you breathing that hard.”

“It’s not running that’s left me breathless,” he whispered.

She spun around just in time to see the glint in his eye before it disappeared. She stared at him a moment before turning back to the shed. “I was on my way to get more firewood when you surprised me. There’s none in the cabin right now. Help me carry some inside. Then we’ll talk about ... this.”

Buffy built a fire while Giles made tea. Neither spoke until Giles sat next to her on the couch.

“Look, Giles. It’s not that I’m not glad to see you. I am, but ... why are you here?” she asked.

Giles set down his cup of tea and took a deep breath before answering. “I know how much this vacation means to you Buffy. You were looking forward to spending time alone with your friends.”

“Yeah. Some friends. They never even called to cancel.” She set her cup down, suddenly not wanting it. “But why are you here, Giles?”

“I saw them in town together. They didn’t remember the trip.”

“Didn’t remember?” She stood and walked to the fire. “We’ve been doing this for years, Giles. Willow and Xander planned the trip. Willow even made sure the kitchen was stocked for us.”

Giles stood and joined her by the fire. “I know Buffy.”

“What did they say?” she asked. “What did you say?” She felt the tears forming in her eyes.

“They said they didn’t realize the trip was this week.” He cleared his throat. “I knew you wouldn’t want to hear excuses from them. So, I told them I’d been looking for them to tell them you had to cancel.”

“Did they even ask why?” Buffy asked, tears streaming down her face.

“No,” Giles whispered. “That’s when I packed my bags and drove up here myself. I didn’t want you to spend the week alone.”

“Thanks,” she whispered before turning and walking to the window. “They’ve been my best friends for a very long time, Giles. How can they just forget me like that?”

Giles walked up behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders. “They were so caught up in their own lives -”

“That’s no excuse.” She sniffed and wiped her eyes with her shirtsleeve.

Giles reached into his pocket and handed her his handkerchief. “Their relationship is new. You must remember what that’s like. It seems the most important thing in the world.”

She wiped the tears from her face. “I know. They kept suggesting that I find a boyfriend so we could double date.” She blew her nose. “It just hurts.”

Giles wrapped his arms around her and met her gaze in her reflection in the window. “I know,” he said.

“It’s not like I can go out and looking for a boyfriend. Most guys wouldn’t understand me. And have you see the guys in the Council that have tried to pick me up? I think they just want to date me so they can brag about it. Sure dating might be fun for a while, but I want more.”

Giles waited to see if she would continue. When she didn’t, he lightly kissed the top of her head. “You can have more, Buffy, and you needn’t look very far,” he whispered.

“Huh? When did you become cryptic guy?” she asked.

“You can have whatever you want, Buffy. You only need the courage to reach for it.”

“No guy would want me,” she muttered.

“But a man does,” he said softly.

She finally met his gaze reflected in the window and gasped. “Giles?”

“Yes?” He ran his hands over her arms and felt her shiver.

“You want me?” Her voice shook as she asked.

Buffy watched his eyes as she felt his hands glide down her arms and over her stomach. “Very much.” His voice held a quiet intensity that sent a thrill through her. He pulled her close and moved his hips against hers. When Buffy groaned, he smiled and laughed softly.

“And ... what happened outside ... that was because ...?”

“I was playing your game, Buffy,” he said. “You teased me. I reciprocated.”

“And the heavy breathing?” she asked.

“Should be obvious,” he answered.

“Um ... yeah.” She turned around to face him. His gaze was even more intense, looking at him directly.

Giles slid his hands from her hips to her ass and squeezed. Buffy’s lips parted slightly as she moaned. He leaned down and brushed his lips lightly against hers. “Do you want to be teased?” He slowly ran the tip of his tongue over her lips. “Or do you want me to just take you now?”

If Giles hadn’t been holding her, Buffy would have fallen over. “Don’t tease,” she whispered. He growled and picked her up, causing her to gasp. “Giles?”

As he carried her to the rug by the fire, he said, “As much as I’d love to shag you by the window, I thought this would be more to your liking.” Before she could respond, he laid her on the rug and leaned over her. “Do you want this, Buffy?”

She stared into his eyes. “Very much.”

It seemed an eternity as she waited for him to touch his lips to hers. When he finally kissed her, it was like a jolt of electricity went through her. It was soft at first as they explored one another. Soon, kissing wasn’t enough, and Buffy moved her mouth away from his. “I need you. Now.”

Giles pulled back and knelt between her legs. Buffy’s breathing quickened as he unbuttoned and unzipped her jeans. He pulled her jeans and panties down in one swift movement and tossed them aside.

Buffy giggled. “Good thing I took my boots off earlier.”

Her giggles turned to moans as he crawled over her and kissed her again. She pouted when he started to pull away, and he caught her lower lip in his teeth before sitting back again. He quickly popped open the button on his pants and unzipped them before pushing them down only as far as necessary.

Buffy drew in a sharp breath when she met his gaze as he once again crawled up to kiss her. She saw such desire and love in his eyes; it surprised her. She didn’t have time to think about it, though, as he kissed her hard. She returned his kiss eagerly as she closed her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. “Please,” she mumbled against his lips.

In one smooth motion, Giles slid into her. He moved slowly at first, trying to make the moment last. When Buffy began moving with him, he started moving faster and harder.

Buffy pulled back, panting. “I want to be on top.”

Giles stopped and, without pulling out, rolled them over. Buffy sat still for a moment before she began to move. She began rocking her hips slowly but quickly began to move faster. When Giles reached under her shirt and unhooked her bra, she lost her rhythm for a few seconds. He smiled at that, and she almost laughed. Then he ran his hands over her breasts. He never touched her nipples, but his movements caused the lace on her bra to rub against them. The sensations were overwhelming, and she soon tumbled over the edge.

The orgasm caught her by surprise, causing her to fall forward. Giles took a moment to kiss her before pulling her shirt off, then her bra. He began to move his hips in short, fast thrusts. Buffy moved against him, causing him to thrust deeper and harder. She could feel the rug against her feet and legs, and her nipples got even harder as they rubbed against Giles’ shirt.

She’d thought the first orgasm was intense, but it was nothing compared to the second one. Feeling Giles come inside her and hearing him call out her name caused waves of pleasure that she never could have imagined. When the orgasm began, she leaned down and kissed him. Giles continued to kiss her until the last ripples of her orgasm faded.

“Wow,” Buffy whispered. “That was intense.”

“I’m not finished with you yet, Love,” Giles said with a wicked glint in his eye.

Buffy woke when she felt Giles leave her side. “Giles?”

“Shh, Love. I’m just adding wood to the fire.”

She opened her eyes enough to see him place a small log on the fire. “Isn’t it dangerous to do that while naked,” she teased.

“Would you rather I waste time pulling on clothes and removing them again right away?” he asked, watching her over his shoulder as he reached for another log.

“Well, since you put it like that ...” She watched as he tended to the fire. “A girl could get used to this. A soft rug by a cozy fire with a naked man to share it with. All I need is hot chocolate and it would be perfect.”

Giles smiled as he turned and looked down at her. “I could go make some if you’d like.”

She sat up and grabbed his hand. “Not if it means letting you out of my sight.” She pulled him down to the rug. “I’m perfectly happy right here with you, with or without chocolate.”

He let out a small chuckle. “Still sore?”

She nodded. “I’m sore in places I didn’t know I had.”

“Any regrets?” he asked as he laid down and pulled her into his arms.

“Nope. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

They watched the fire in silence for several minutes before Buffy spoke again. “Can we keep this place for just us? I’d like it to be our special place.”

“What about Willow and Xander?” Giles asked.

“I’m sure they’ll understand. They can find their own special place.” She leaned up and kissed him softly. “This is gonna sound crazy, but I feel connected to this place.”

“We could actually live here and really make it our place,” he suggested.

“Is that your sneaky way of proposing to me?” she asked.

“Is that your sneaky way of saying yes?” he retorted.

“Only if you’re serious,” she said.

“Very serious.”

“Then, yes.”

“I love you, Buffy.”

“I love you, Giles.”
