Just a little B/G short piece inspired by the christmassy time of year.
"You really outdid yourself Anya..." Giles commented as he entered the Magic Box. He took in the festive decorations clinging to the walls and ceiling. Most of it was garlands and wreaths of greenery with red and gold ribbons. It was everywhere.
"It's traditional and well suited to the earth loving customers we have." She said matter of factly.
"I just think it's pretty." Buffy grinned from her position at the top of the ladder where she stood fastening a garland to the railing.
"Oh Buffy, afternoon." He greeted, having not seen her there.
"We're all here. Although Xander and Dawn only helped do anything that was near the food." She grinned.
"Food?" He blinked.
"I made cookies and mince pies and Tara made some pastries and chocolates." Willow added as she came through from the back room.
"It makes customers feel good and then they feel like they should spend more money." Anya beamed happily.
"I see..." He smiled tolerantly at her. "Very good. All of you."
The shop was busy all day, sales were record high but then again it was nearly Christmas. Tara and Anya were brilliant with the customers and thanks to a few hunches of mistletoes Anya got to kiss Xander several times at work with an valid excuse. It was with relief that they closed the store that evening.
"I don't think I've ever seen it this busy in here." Buffy sighed with relief as Giles shut the door.
"People." Xander nodded dazedly.
"We've never made this much money in one day before Giles! We should give them food and kisses more often." Anya said dreamily as she continued to cash up the til and record the day's takings.
"Yeah Buffy that guy came back in three times trying to get you under the mistletoe." Willow grinned, nudging her friend.
"And he brought something every time." Anya agreed happily.
"Please, he made Giles look eighteen!" Buffy snorted.
"Oh that's just charming." Giles protested. She laughed at him and carried over a plate of cookies to him.
"The guy was like ninety Giles. Here, have a cookie to cheer you up." She grinned.
"But the chance to kiss a hot young blonde was enough to lure many a man into the store today." Xander laughed. "Anya even got me to flirt with a few of the ladies to see if it worked the other way around. Giles did you not see the lady stood directly under the mistletoe for ages hoping you'd walk her way?"
"I said you could flirt but you couldn't kiss them." Anya glared.
"Loud and clear sweetie." He said putting his hands up defensively.
"Well, if Giles had stepped under the mistletoe even once it would've saved me tearing that horrid woman off of you." She pouted.
"I wasn't aware we were trying to lure more profits by less than honest means." Giles sighed, making his way to the counter.
"Quick get him!" Dawn shouted as he passed the mistletoe. Anya darted from behind the counter at the same time Willow pounced the other side and both girls planted a kiss on his cheeks, one each side.
"Does that work when I do it?" Xander asked stepping under a bunch of mistletoes himself. Dawn and Tara took pity on him and leant up to kiss each cheek.
"What am I invisible?" Buffy pouted still stood holding the plate of cookies under the third and final bunch of mistletoe.
"You can't have Xander." Anya huffed.
"I don't want Xander." Buffy replied stepping forward and yanking Giles' sleeve until he found himself under the mistletoe with her so that she could kiss him. She leant up and briefly kissed him on the lips before laughing at his raised eyebrows.
"What a coincidence I don't much fancy Xander either." Giles mused before Buffy found herself grabbed and spun back to him. Cookies flew everywhere and the plate clattered to the floor due to the momentum with which he had pulled her. She had no chance to protest of course because her lips found themselves rather preoccupied with the warm pair covering them.
Chaste mistletoe kiss this was not. His lips moved over hers as if he owned them and she felt her stomach fluttering. As he broke away she gasped for breath and stared up to find her watcher looking just as surprised as she was.
Then he backed away rather quickly and disappeared into the back room without a word. Buffy stared at the doorway for a moment in shock. Giles had kissed her...really kissed her and it had felt incredible. Her heart was pounding from that one kiss. Her Giles had kissed her as if he was going to devour every inch of her and then poof! He had run away! Well that wasn't going to happen.
Mind made up she headed after him and shut the back door behind her.
"What was that?" She asked as she approached him.
"I think you know exactly what it was Buffy." He replied.
"No not the kiss, you ran away." She frowned. "Do you usually kiss people then run away?"
"I...I can't recall it ever happening before." He told her. "But I kissed you and I rather feel like I should be apologizing but...I don't feel very sorry." He chuckled.
"Then don't apologise." she replied approaching him. "I think I need to go and cover my house with mistletoe." At that they both laughed until it fell into an awkward silence.
"You could just ask, if you w-were so inclined to do so..." He suggested nervously.
She didn't ask, instead she gripped his jacket until their lips met again. Taking the invitation he slid his arms around her and pulled her closer as his tongue forced her lips apart as he deepened the kiss. He heard her let out a soft moan as their tongues met and gripped her tighter.
"Why does this feel so right?" She breathed as he released her lips a short while later.
"We are already very close Buffy and we've always had a sort of chemistry as a team...it naturally lays a very good foundation for a relationship of romantic intent." He told her. " I never really even considered it until you were older, even then never seriously of course but I realised that the potential was there. I never considered that anything would come of it though."
"Why not? I...Giles I wouldn't have minded...you know if you'd have ever asked me to consider it." She whispered looking down at her hands where they remained on his chest. "Would you consider it now? You know, you...me...dinner? Like a date?"
"I'd be delighted." With that he kissed her again, only briefly this time.
"I have a feeling I'm going to be very happy this Christmas." She said softly.
