I’ve read several books by this author, including this one, and they’ve all been very good. I think I wrote a review of one - Have You Seen Louis Velez? that I was almost certain I wouldn’t like … but I was wrong. It was well written and compelling (and even had a cat, if you like cats). What’s probably most impressive about this author is that she creates well-rounded, sympathetic and believable characters who aren’t “cookie cutter” copies (ie basically the same) from book to book. Each one is unique and sympathetic in his/her own way.

Exactly. The characters were real to me, not just behaving in a set way that rarely makes sense. I could see people acting the way they did. And I liked them.

And, yes, I like cats. 🙂

I think you would like Have You Seen Louis Velez?. She also wrote one titled Just After Midnight I thought was very good; that one features a horse. But she’s written quite a number of books, and I have yet to read one that wasn’t good.

That does sound good. The author being able to write good characters that aren't cookie-cutter is pretty awesome. I'm glad it worked out for you. The puppies on the cover are so cute.

Yes, you don't run across that a lot, not in these types of stories. I was very pleasantly surprised.
