I'm glad what you got was 'almost enough'. It certainly sounds intriguing. As I've said before, I'm not a fan of time shifts; I think I've only read one book where for once it worked for me.

The characters have to become real, so that I care what happens to them

I don't mind the time shifts, as long as I can follow what's going on. And, luckily, I didn't have a problem with that. I just wish she had put more effort into filling out the characters. The book was better than The Glass Hotel, but nowhere as good as Station Eleven.

I've seen this book recced on various sci-fi lists and thought it sounded interesting. I'm glad you were mostly satisfied.

She's a very good writer, but it's somewhat hit or miss. This one was mostly a hit.

Yes, I have. Unfortunately, I have to say that I wasn't much impressed by it. I think this one was much better. The book of hers that I love is Station Eleven.

i made reference to the book you introduced to me in your link
i'm not sure what you mean about locked, unless your LJ settings are for friends only

i haven't had any problems in this regard
that might be it
see my latest comment to you about the sea of tranquility
let me know if there is any more to it
thanks

also, i agree about the character plot shifts
they seem discombobulated at first
but the whole scenario is subtle
i totally get it
