Interesting! Dual timelines are hard to pull off but very satisfying when the author can do so.
To be honest when an author describes a character's clothes, I barely pay attention, it just never really interests me and seldom has much to do with the plot. I can see where it could get annoying if it was excessive.
I normally don’t pay attention to descriptions of clothing, but you could hardly miss it. Other than that, the book was interesting and well written. There are two more books in the series which I plan to read; hopefully the writers will have cut out with the clothes descriptions!
The clothing thing would annoy the crap out of me, because it sounds like a bad romance novel (or bad fanfic) but the premise here sounds really interesting. Thanks for posting about it - I'll check it out.
It’s such a shame that they included the clothes descriptions, because it took away from what is an interesting and otherwise very readable book. And I enjoyed learning about the culture.
It does sound quite interesting. I shan't be adding it to my list though, as I really dislike books that move back & forth in time like that. Describing what each character is wearing every time they appear does seem more than a bit odd.
I figured that the horror element would keep you away. I wasn’t aware about your aversion to books that jump back and forth in time. It’s something a lot of writers can’t pull off, so I can understand you avoiding them.
