Back to the Movies....sort of

I haven't been much into movie watching for the last few months, though by July it did start to pick up. Probably because I was spending time with Anne. August might be better. Anyway, here's the last three months for your "viewing" pleasure.

Another oldie but goodie, though I’ve never understood what was so great about the Ormond character that all three brothers would fall in love with her. But I like the movie, anyway.

You touch on a pet peeve of mine that a recent discussion has ruffled up. She wasn't well written enough because she was there to be a face, tits, and legs. She was a plot device, as women so often are, for the MEN to act around. And to this day we really haven't gotten past using women as things, as props for MEN to use in MEN's movies about important MEN things. Sigh.

The Ciaran Hinds/Amanda Root "Persuasion" is one of my favorite movies. I love the simplicity and the realism of the sets and the story.

I thought maybe the book would be better, give more reason for their passion for the woman, but, no, the book is pretty much the same. She's only a catalyst, nothing more. It's amazing how often that was, and still is, done.

I think that one is my favorite, though I did really enjoy the 2007 version. This new one was sort of silly, and I at least didn't feel at all like I wasting transported into another time. It's just too modern a take.

I used to think I was a bit of a movie buff but that was many years ago and so yet again I have to say that I've seen none of these films! I did read very good reviews about the Paul Newman/Woodward film, though, so I must look out for it. Bit of a relief to find out that they were a bit more normal than I used to think Thanks for this rundown.

There are so many movies out there that I never know about, much less see. Streaming is a lifesaver for me.

The Newman/Woodward series was excellent. I knew some about them, but this gave me a real view into their lives. Two of not many that I'd be interesting in finding out about!

And you're welcome. 😊

I don't know if I'd go that far (TPM comes to mind,) but more times than not, it does. 😊

Oh man, I forgot Dead Again even existed. I remember loving that when it came out.

If you're going to theatres (the one I go to has huge leather recliners and tons of space) I highly recommend Bullet Train. It's super fun.

I did so love seeing Branagh and Thompson together. I think this one was my favorite.

Bullet Train was already on my list of movies to see, but it's good to hear from someone who's already viewed it and can recommend it. Thanks!

I've heard bad things about the new Persuasion and I haven't made my mind up about watching it yet. I love the Cirian Hinds version as well!

I hadn't heard anything about the new movie, so it was a pretty big disappointment. It's not awful, but it's not very good, either.

The Hinds version does seem to be the favorite.
