No, I wouldn't think so. The writing is somewhat outdated, but how the female character was written is what really got me. And I wondered at how he wrote Frances, Viscount Lovell. If he's such a jerk, how is it he's Richard's best friend? Just too many things wrong.
You must feel about Richard III books the way I feel about Sherlock Holmes pastiches. I long for them to be good, but I'm a really critical audience and rarely find something I like.
I think the more you read on a subject, the more of a subject-matter expert that you become, the harder it is to overlook glaring mistakes, or even just bad writing. With Richard, it's not so much the style of writing, as to how the people are presented, though, yeah, good writing certainly helps! I've certainly noticed that, over the years, I've definitely become harder to please.
I think I once (years ago) mentioned my friend to you. wandlimb, although I don't know if she's on LJ anymore, is a Ricardian as you are. She eventually wrote her own novel because she wanted the chance to portray RIII the way she thought he might've been. :-)

It is probably a good call not to read the next one.

Yeah, I'm glad I glanced through it and saw where the writer was going. Definitely in a good direction, imo!
