Yeah, and it's made me think twice about reading the last book in the series. On one hand, I'm hoping that I'll learn more about the characters that should have been in this book. But on the other, I could end up being just as disappointed.
It is so difficult to like a book if it doesn't stick the landing. Since there is one more book in the series maybe reading that one would give you more closure, but it would be a leap of faith on your part that the third books ending won't be as awful.
I'm certainly hoping that that's the case. I've always enjoyed his writing, but he seems to be losing me as he transitions from horror to mystery. I'm hoping that the third book makes up for it.
