Your wide range in reading always impresses me! Sounds a very interesting book.

Thank you! That's much appreciated. 😊 And, yes, the book was very interesting.

It's "On the Beach" for horses. ;-) This seems like the kind of book I would read except I can't take miserable unhappy endings anymore, especially for animals. Also I always wonder with translations - how much credit for the good writing (or blame for bad, when that happens) rests with the writer and how much with the translator? Sounds to me from your description the translator did an excellent job!

Dang it, I always hit return and the comment posts. I was going to say thanks for posting this. I am going to add it to my list because it sounds good.

Yeah, there were a few places I was uncomfortable reading because of the animals. They so take the brunt of things humans do wrong.

She uses the same translator, so that could be part of it. But the books are winning awards in their native language, so the original writing must be pretty good, too.

You're so welcome. I've read two of her books so far, and really enjoyed both of them. I'm not sure if it matters, but I've left the first in the series for last! Well, last until the 4th one is published.

I'm sure it's well-written, but I have sworn off things that are dystopian. The world right now is struggling, and honestly, I just can't take reading more than what's in the paper and scientific news.

I'm sort of the reverse. I've given up on the world. I've been following the climate crisis for as long as it's been an issue, and over the years I kept thinking that people would wake up to where we were heading. But they haven't, not really. And now it's too late. So I read dystopian novels to see where and how we're going to end up. None that zombie crap. Just serious looks at our future.

I'll probably see some of it; actually, I'm already seeing some of it.

It sounds good and heartbreaking.

I'm glad you liked the writing and the way it was told. Some authors write so beautifully.

Heartbreaking is a good word for it. Especially since it's tied into the lives of the horses.

Her writing is very compelling, though sometimes difficult to read.
