Everyone should go here and read this entry, because dude, it is high time someone did something... I could rant on this but I didn't yet and I will try to refrain.

Also, I am terrible with remembering birthdays, so before I forget:
Happy Birthday platyg!!!

rants, birthdays

from the comments in the entry: Pick the toddler up and march him out of the store pronto. My shopping can wait; teaching him that the world does not revolve around him cannot.

That's EXACTLY what my grandmother would have done w/ me if I had done that, and that's just what I'd do if ever in such a situation.

I worked in a grocery store for two years and saw more of that shit than I care to remember. I was never angry at the child because I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it was the parent's fault he was acting that way. Oh, the lessons that child is learning from his mother! I guarantee you--he will be just another statistic pretty soon. He'll be diagnosed with ADD or ADHD because he refuses to listen to direction; he'll be prescribed some medication to make him sit still, curbing his ability to function on his own; he'll be an angsty teen who doesn't know how to handle the world; he'll be prescribed more drugs which will make him suicidal. Yeah, his life is going to be just peachy.

Ugh. How nicely this fits with my rants on politesse and rudeness. Ugh.

I'm not a parent, but I KNOW that those kinds of parents are so completely ridiculous. They're the kind of parents who are really doing a wonderful job of messing up future generations.
