A drive-by whine...

Or complaint I guess, really.

The Internet has room for everyone, and far be it from me to harsh anyone's squee (which is why I'm complaining here, in relative privacy. Also, I'm too polite to do it elsewhere) but the people who set up the petition to make Spock/Kirk canon in the next movie are seriously deluded ( Read more... )

You know, if they have that much energy, why don't they work on the petitions to change the military system in the USA so that gays don't have to stay closeted.

Or collect money for a homeless shelter.

Or do anything CONSTRUCTIVE.

(sigh)

I despair.

Exactly! I feel bad thinking someone is wasting their time and energy (because, really, how constructive is most of what I do online?) but it gets on my nerves when they act like they're doing it to benefit humanity. If that was truly their goal, there are a lot of more realistic ways to get there.

Oy. I generally prefer it when no pairings are canon, that way everyone can enjoy their pairing-of-choice. You're right that canon pairings are rarely dealt with well -- especially in sci fi. (How many times have various Treks decided to -- randomly, so far as I could tell -- pair off characters to the detriment of the show?)

Not that TBTB will listen to their request. Still, one does feel rather embarrassed for the petitioners. It's just another excuse for people to have a good laugh at those crazy fans.

Ah, yes. How could I have forgotten the pairing travesties the Treks themselves have thrust upon us? Worf/Jadzia Dax! Kira Nerys/Odo! And, most cringe-worthy of all, Tucker/T'Pol! (Thanks for reawakening my nightmares. ;))

Ah, fandom, never stop being embarrassing.

And as much as I adored the movie, yes, can we now please have some ass-kicking, meaningful women in the next one?

I've read a lot of people who know TOS much better than I commenting they actually took out a lot of good female characters (Number One, Nurse Chapel) as well as decimating poor Uhura.

It could be worse. I suppose someone could be presenting this to the director in person at a convention or something (although I wouldn't be surprised to see it.)

Bwahahahahaha! You said it!

Thank the gods that they're not petitioning JKR. *ahem* She listens. *eyeroll*

Does she? Gah. Although if you start that game, how do you decide who to listen to? I'm sure the Spock/Uhura shippers could find enough crazy fans to compete with these guys.

If nothing else the crazy fans are always good entertainment. Yeah.

You've got to laugh. Then cringe. Then hide your face and be glad no one "on the outside" knows of your fannish tendencies. But mostly laugh, I think.
