I'm just nodding vigorously here, I completely agree on so many points. Especially there not being enough Lupin or Draco and Snape's worst memory being way too short. (The movie was at least 20 minutes shorter than GoF, I'm sure they could've added a minute or two...) I might've been watching the movie through my Snape Is a Hero -glasses, but I thought it was pretty clear that Snape went to warn the Order and Sirius. Hmm, must look at that part more closely when I see the movie again. I wish they'd bring Cuarón back for the last movie, PoA is still my favourite movie and I bet he'd do wonders with Deathly Hallows too. (Should I wait until I've actually read the book before saying things like that? Pfft.)
Yes, I rather thought that GoF went on for fucking ever, and OotP seemed quite a bit shorter. Surely they could've tacked on about ten extra minutes and made some things a lot clearer. I didn't get that Snape went to warn the Order - I know he did, of course, because I've read the book, but it really didn't come across in the film for me. Perhaps another viewing? *g* Snape's worst memory, I think, was the biggest disappointment of the film, especially after production photos of it being such a big deal. I mean, come on, what? That scene was all of ten seconds long! God, I definitely vote to bring back Cuarón for the last two films. PoA is seriously still my favourite, and I think he could make HBP maybe not so crap. (Yeah, I didn't really like the book. Ooops!)
Good points. Especially about Lupin Snape and Draco. Although I thought of you during the occulmency lessons. And was it just me or was the way that they shot the scenes of harry's nightmares (with the sweating and the groaning) really freakin hot? I mean, I'm not even into the boy, but DAMN
( ... )
Oh and about Neville, Harry found out from Dumbledore (in book three?) and then saw for himself in the hospital. They cut both of those things out though, so I was pretty forgiving about them having Neville tell him. They needed for Bellatrix to be built up as a villian so, yeah, didn't really bother me.
DUMBLEDORE bothers me. Richard Harris had Dumbledore down to the T. When this guy took over, I think he wanted to have his Dumbledore be distinctly different from the other, or something. Anyway, this Dumbledore just doesn't have the twinkle in his eye. He's serious and commanding and it really bothers me. Just thought I'd vent on you. Sorry.
I too am slightly forgiving about the complete disregard for canon as far as Neville's parents, if only for the snarky line he had for Bellatrix at the Department of Mysteries. That made me giggle.
OH GOD YES! I pretty much cannot take Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. Just... no. I think you've got it exactly right when you say serious and commanding. He just doesn't seem sympathetic/empathetic at all to me, and he's definitely not twinkly.
Yes, there definitely needed to be more Lupin, Snape, and (god help me) Draco.
I actually could have done without the nightmare bits. While slightly hot (all that thrasing about!) it sort of highlighted the fact that Radcake's acting is still not top notch. YMMV, etc.
I did like the movie, yes. I think I'm just very picky about canon, and while I know they could never have everything in, there are A LOT of important bits that get left out or changed, which pisses me off.
Sirius. Hmmm. I'm kinda 'meh' about him. He felt rather OOC to me in the film - like you said, not frustrated enough, and just not... Sirius enough, if that makes sense.
Not at all! Ramble all you like. I'm interested to hear what people thought about OotP, but I realise a lot of people haven't yet seen it, so I am waiting patiently!
