She is right. It's fucking fantastic. Really leaves you wanting the third movie, I loved it, and so do a few other people I know. I really think it'll depend on what you're expecting.
Oh yes, but he has a very good reason for it. The movie's a little darker; Jack reveals to the audience (not the other characters) a little more intimate a view of himself.
Mmyes, I saw it this afternoon. While I would not go so far as to say it's "fucking fantastic," or even as good as the first flick, I still enjoyed it thoroughly.
I loved the comedy in it -- some may say it was a bit over the top, but eh. The music did it for me, too. Davy Jones' organ music? He played that fucker with his face and it was awesome!
The Davy Jones organ scenes were so over-the-top, garish, and dramatic that it inspired a strange sort of stunned awe in me. In a totally good way, of course.
And naturally the comedy was very funny. The jar of dirt in particular made me laugh, but I loved the bits where Depp was running around tied to the shish-kebab pole, as well as the rather long fight scene involving the water wheel that just kept rolling. And rolling. And rolling. And rolling, until it flat out wasn't physically possible anymore.
Meh. I thought it was good at the time but more than a week on I'm beginning to like it less and less compared to the first one. It wasn't a bad sequel but it'll never be a classic movie ...
