To stay, or to not stay

I've never had much opinon on our Russian overlords, which doesn't meant that it's an inconsequential concern. To me, it's just another tick in LJ's slow spiral towards death, since LJ has been owned by Russians for some time now. Only instead, it's more direct ( Read more... )

This is all so frustrating. I was never too concerned about the servers moving to Russia and now this happens.
I know I said yesterday that I won't move since I'm mostly here for the icon community, but more and more people talk about maybe using DW and I do have an account, even one for my graphics community, so cross-posting does seem like the way to go. I don't know, I kinda don't want to bother with that right now since I've never used my DW account in the six years I've had it and I never really looked into it.

Good luck!

My use of DW over the almost decade I've had it (I even got a special invite token!) was to serve as an archive for LJ in the event of...well, this. And I know that sure, whatever, Russians. But on the other hand, given that DW saw 500k new users with the Russia server move, and how LJ says a lot of its users are Russian, I can't help but think that they're losing more of their main userbase which in turn means closing shop here.

Someone else who just packed up for DW was also talking about icon comms, and mentioned setting up an RSS feed on DW to keep using the stuff from LJ without having to be here?

I'm still here. I've seen a couple of people on my flist who intend to delete, but most of the people who've actually deleted hadn't posted in months/years (how did they even hear that this was happening? were they just lurking around?).

Yeah, I know one person who's deleted but they've been primarily posting from DW for some time now, so that wasn't too surprising. A couple of other people came out of the woodwork just around the time it happened, so I guess it's possible that it just coincided?

Yeah, I'm not going to go nuclear and delete LJ, but it never had to be everyone moving to DW. Just enough to make me want to at least start x-posting.

2+2 still equals 4 without too much work, so it looks like its winding down faster

This, pretty much.

I was never into Myspace or xanga, but apparently both of those are close mirrors of what's going on with LJ now. And I know they say a lot of their users are Cyrillic, but given that most of them use LJ as a means of talking about things that might be otherwise disagreeable, it seems likely that they're going to lose money fast.

I'm staying here. I may back things up on DW just in case (same handle, will be adding you there as well), but as far as I'm concerned I'm remaining on LJ.

We are now mutually linked up on DW, just in case this ship sinks faster than expected!
