Spent some time "clothes shopping" this afternoon (actual purchases: one shirt), and besides my usual rant about fat girls obviously only wishing to dress in hideous colours and even more ugly styles I noticed something else

Probably the sexualisation of kids. At least adult women can always go and buy crazy sexy clothes as well as the kiddie stuff. While kindy dresses in adult sizes depress the hell out of me, it doesn't squick me out nearly as much as g-strings for 8 year olds.
On the plus side, at least where those trends meet you get teenage girls dressing well and with a modicum of modesty.
Oh, and the lack of darting is so fashionistas can do that dreadful thing where they wear a belt to cinch it, usually under the boobs so the whole thing gets this empire line dealy going on. Fashion dictates that it's to achieve a slimming layered effect, with multiple textures to create interest, but I think it's just a way to sell lots of otherwise useless skinny belts to stupid women.
The lack of darting thing just worried me because surely we're not the only women in Brisbane who have more than an A-cup? Darting at the sides makes it easier for your boobies to go into the front of a dress, neh? No darting = bigger boobies missing out, surely. Or girls with bigger boobies having to go up a size or two and getting hella depressed about it.
Yeah, I worded this wrongly. Sexualisation of children is wrong, full stop. But then you get the chicken-and-egg conundrum combined with the appeal of the forbidden. Telling adults that children are sexy feels all kinds of wrong to me, with or without kiddie g-strings ... I might ramble a bit more on this and turn it into a more clarified post.
Adults have the capacity to choose what they wear with more thought that children can and are less likely to follow trends and fashions just because they are fashion. And probably to some degree there are women who can pull off more child-like clothes as less infantalisation and more cute/quirky and fun... of course this does come from somebody who owns and wears a knitted hoody dress that has bunny ears on it.
Tough call, but probably the sexualisation of kids. I have real issues with child abuse and images of kids done up to look like adults just triggers all teh wrong visceral buttons from that perspective.
