Gnaaaargh. 20 minutes on the phone later and I still feel like I'm going around in ever-decreasing circles. However, I *think* I have established the following:

*We can't work out when exactly I sat my STAT test. We know that I achieved a ranking of 88 on it, the highest possible, but we can't find out exactly when I achieved it ( Read more... )

bitching, uni, ranting, people suck

So much depends on what the goal is. Are you doing a course just to do one and have the degree, or... are you doing something that genuinely excites you?

In the US anyway, hiring managers for office jobs often don't care what your bachelor's degree is -- just that you have one.

As bizarre as my professional and academic life has been since I got my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Poetry option, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It was a fabulous time. Please -- my vote is to use what capabilities you've got to do theatre. I really mean this.

It would be nice to get paid for what I love doing - apparently it's like having a license to steal. That plus the hours are generally more to my liking - seems my brain just doesn't switch on properly until about four in the afternoon with or without extra chemicals mixing it up with the Neurontin - and this is the only thing that worries me about going back to study anything next year. I doubt I'll be able to completely structure my lectures to only be in the afternoon and I don't want to start something with fabulous intentions only to fall spectacularly the first time I flare or fall asleep at an inappropriate juncture. I'm stubborn as hell and will keep going for a long time, but the last few years have served as an excellent lesson in not being superhuman and having to admit to my frailties every now and then. This humility thing just keeps on biting my butt. ;)

My little vote is to go with forensics. Surely watching every CSI produced since 2001 is some sort of prior learning? Also, it means you won't be studying with thespians.

All those arts subjects seem really interesting to me....even the languages. Why not learn manadarin and use it to embarrass the PM?

Actually I've been told that anyone enrolled in the forensics program is henceforth banned from watching CSI or any other such show because it's so much bullshit it's not funny. (Drinking game starters: every time they get a fingerprint result back in less than a week; every time they get a DNA hit back in less than a month, or have a DNA profile from a victim/perpetrator in less than 16 hours minimum; every time they use luminol to establish the presence of blood [it degrades DNA and is a last resort]; every time David Caruso takes his glasses off or puts them on in lieu of emoting ...)

You're right about studying with thespians potentially being a very trying time - although I've got two years prior experience with specifically that, and ten years of working in general with them on top of it, plus much better drugs in my favour; the fact that I'll likely be at least nine years older than most of them might help or might just drive me further up the wall (going to uni with people to whom Tienamen Square is just a venue for Olympic ( ... )

job prospects ....thoughts, advice anonymous September 26 2007, 20:50:01 UTC
Course 1 will make you self-actualise.

Course 2 has limited job opportunities. A female seems to get more
of the jobs than males. However, the money in employment is better than Course 1 and 3.

Course 3 will lead to nought.

I have found UQ to be heartless in the extreme. UQ specialises in ignoring students (unless you are full-fee). The inhabitants of JD Storey are locked in a time warp.
