Presentses

Tom and I were recently talking about books and how he almost always reads ebooks, which made me realise that perhaps just giving Tom all the books was not a good present strategy. So we each came up with a list of 5 things which we feel we could never have too many of for the times when inspiration hasn't struck but we still want to express ( Read more... )

That's an excellent question. I love your answer.

For me, I'm really not sure. Books are almost always welcome (assuming it's ok if I sometimes end up not falling in love with them and eventually passing them on). But I'm not sure what else makes a good "default" gift. Anything home-made is always really, really appreciated, but I don't want too many things I dearly love but can't actually use. Board games are generally welcome -- eventually I will have too many, but I'm not having that problem yet. Food and drink are welcome, and anything consumable is good because I can enjoy it, and then enjoy it AGAIN next time, but I'm not especially excited by them. Nice chocolate is probably the thing I'm mostly likely to reliably enjoy. Bubble bath is ok :) Trip to a nice restaurant or some event I'm interested in is always a good idea, but it depends on planning it. Nice clothes in theory, but it's hard to buy for someone else. I realise that's not actually that helpful! I will think more.

THat's a bit helpful :) I do like to get games, but our collection is big enough now that it's not always easy to find something new. Although the same could be said of books, and people manage that :)

Interesting. Not sure I have any categories like that, except maybe yummy things to eat. When I had pierced ears, earrings might have been on the list, because they're small and pretty and I used to wear them every day (I stopped when baby Bethany started pulling them, and the holes sealed up). But in general I dislike accumulating more Stuff.

Ooh, I thought I sort of had a list for you, and it was postcards, handmade cards, personal art and exciting music recommendations. But maybe that was my invention and nothing like the hypothetcal real list.

That's not bad, actually, but it probably also needs crafting supplies (beads and paper).

Consumables are useful ;) We seem to get through a lot of interesting tea bags, pens, sweeties, book marks and pretty cards.

Ooh, good ideas. I used to be given letter writing sets a lot as a child, but hadn't thought of giving them, even though I really appreciated them.

This is a great idea! Also, apparently I wasn't following you - rectified.

My instinct said 'but you're super interesting! It would be sad to not read your journal' before remembering that that doesn't change whether or not you're reading me :) Welcome, anyway.
