The days before seemed a dream, distant and fleeting. It was dangerous to remember them, and so he had locked them away tightly, in the darkest corner of his mind.
But sometimes, a breeze would blow by and he would straighten up, broken bones slowly coming together for one moment. He would close his eyes and dream of the sea, feeling the waves crash beneath his feet, sensing the iron pumping through his veins. His heart beat, and he felt almost whole. For a moment, he was Theon of House Greyjoy, the blood of Pyke, the iron kraken of the sea. For a moment. And then he remembered how dangerous it was to be Theon, how dangerous it was to remember. He wasn’t Theon, not anymore, not here. He was Reek. Reek, Reek, it rhymes with weak. You have to remember your name, he told himself sternly, feeling his bones collapse once more as the breeze faded away
