[For once, she doesn't appear angry, but she isn't exactly happy either. In one hand, she has a sizable stick that has been split down the middle partway. The paler wood on the inside is visible and has been marked off with numbered lines up to ten, though it seems to start at the number four. I wish I could say I found it all more fascinating than purely horrifying. And you're positive none of the things you've put in have come back out?

Unless they're meant to come out after twenty-four hours, I doubt it. I threw a rock in shortly after the good commander's most recent announcement and now, a couple hours later, I still have yet to see it return or fall out the other side.

It's unlikely, but I won't rule it out until a day or so has gone by. For now, I'll stick around here to keep an eye on it and see if anything comes back out.

A basic rule of thumb when dealing with an unknown substance is that you use something that you don't care what happens to it in the end to test it before using yourself as a guinea pig.

Same here. I don't think the old man ever said anything about this in his lectures, but then again, I never paid a lot of attention. At least we know they're not safe, but beyond that...
