What to do with my stash???

I'm so tempted to buy new fabric, but I really really should try to use my stash. So I thought I would dig some out of my closet and see if anything inspires me. Mind you, this is just part of my stash. It's only (part of) what's lying on top of the fabric boxes.

I have 10 meters of black cotton with a small white stripe. I'm thinking of making a ( Read more... )

A friend of mine made this polonaise out of a black striped fabric. I think you can see it here http://pics.livejournal.com/emmalinep/pic/0001p539/
She hasn't started wearing a corset or fitting it to her yet but I'm working on her.

That looks really cute! Now I'm convinced I should use it for a polonaise.

It almost sounds like you need a real challenge. You've been popping out a lot of outfits, and maybe its time for something really over the top, like lots of trims.
This article has some nice photos of rows and rows of pleating, and excess trims for inspiration. http://www.victoriana.com/victoriandress/victoriandress1875.html

Ooooohhhh, thank you for that link!!! I've already seen 3 dresses I would like to make :D. I love the black velvet one and the purple one and also the ball gown with all those pleats on the back.

You might be right that I need a new challenge. I have the feeling I am repeating myself. At least the gown I'm working on right now (the natural form gown in taffeta and lace) is somewhat different than my other projects. And I'm redrafting the back of the bodice, so that's new to me too. I think I'm going to start a tudor gown and elizabethan gown soon. Just to be working on a different era.

wow, I want that skullduggery fabric, its gorgeous! I'd definately be too scared to use it though, although I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful! :-)

That skullduggery is really gorgeous! You would definitely love it. But it is also intimidating. What to use it for? I thought if I make a (ordinary) fishtail, I would probably wear it more often. But it is also great to use in a costume. But I tend to wear my costumes only a few times, so it seams a bit of a shame to use if for a costume. Maybe if I make a fishtail and use leftovers for a bodice???

It is difficult to know how best to do justice to unusual design fabrics. I had a similar dilemma with my gorgeous japanese fabric; deciding to have a corset made from it in the end as I knew that would have use with different ensembles.

If you have enough, that sounds like a good idea to use for two different items; dressed up and more general wear.

Lovely fabrics! I've been trying to work through my stash the last year, with some success. I haven't bought quite as much fabric as usual...

Thank you! Great that you had some succes using your stash. You did better than me! My plan for this year was to use most of my stash, but I haven't been very succesfull with that. I always see fabrics I like and I can't live without :D. So I tend to buy more and more and they always end up in my closet for years.
