Comic Book Resources previews the first 50 pages of The Apocalipstix, my new Original Graphic Novel with Cameron Stewart. The preview comprises the first of three chapters in the book, which will be arriving in stores at the end of July.

Okay, so the art is great, 'cause Cam Stewart does great work. Not news. But the page design is fucking spectacular. The thing basically unspools, animates, right there. You can't stop it. It's like he's drawn in the steady-cam work and swish pans. The thing's alive. I love a comic that's not afraid of full-page art or a two-page spread of a guitar sailing through the air. That all screams good things about the collaboration, I say.

That's the result of a great conversation Cameron and I had early in the project, wherein he expressed an urge to take as long as he needs with any particular shot or event - something we couldn't really do in our work for companies with rigidly set page counts for the books. I unhitched a lot of the scenes, letting them fly free in the script - and he took it from there.

The end product, I think, is Cameron's inspired best, as far as storytelling is concerned.
