[fic] The Case of the Pudding Cup

Mar 28, 2010 08:43

The clacking of keys stopped as Ludwig looked up from his computer. Something was wrong. Definitely wrong. The house was too quiet. On a normal basis this would be a good thing; he liked silence when he worked. But when Gilbert was at home, silence could only mean something bad was about to happen.

He sighed, and rubbed his eyes. Why did he, of all people, studious and hard-working, get saddled with a brother like Gilbert? A brother who could distract him even when he wasn’t in the immediate area. Ludwig blinked and hit a few more buttons on his keyboard. Maybe Gilbert was just sleeping.

“WEST!!”
Like a bolt of lightening Gilbert lunged into the room, tackling Ludwig out of his seat. Before the German man had time to react he shoved something onto his head and ran back out, cackling all the way.

Ludwig narrowed his eyes at the door before getting to his feet and taking whatever it was off his head. He blinked. He blinked again.

…A pudding cup?

Well, technically an empty pudding cup but that still didn’t answer the question of why Gilbert had shoved it onto his head.

Holding the plastic container tight in his grip he followed Gilbert out the door and down into the living room. He was just sitting on the sofa, feet propped up on the coffee table, watching one of America’s stupid cartoons. Something about a talking sponge. Idiotic to say the least.

“Gilbert…” He walked forward so as to confront his brother with the cup. Gilbert waved a hand in his direction.

“Shut up, West. I’m missing all of this witty banter.”

“Why did you run into my office and put a pudding cup on my head?”

Gilbert spared a glance in his direction and shrugged, “I was done with it. Throw it out.”

Ludwig’s eye twitched, just a little, “So you ran all the way upstairs to get me to throw something out when there’s a trashcan in the kitchen?!”

“Uh, yeah. Is there a problem? Because if there is, I don’t get it.”

“Throw it out yourself!”

Gilbert scoffed, as if the mere suggestion was against his religion, “Are you kidding? I’m not going in there; there’s a toaster on the counter.”

“…So?”

“Don’t worry, West,” Gilbert reached over and patted his arm, “You’ll understand when you’re older,” and at that he went back to watching TV.

For a moment Ludwig stood there, trying to process exactly what the hell his brother’s motives/logic could be. As usual he failed. Sighing he placed the empty container on the table and went back upstairs to work. The minute he was gone Gilbert picked it up and tossed it over his head. He smiled as he heard it land with a thunk in the aforementioned trash can.

“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I am awesome.”
