He believed in her when she didn't ask him to, and expresses the reasonable doubt she needs when she does ask him for something.

And this is really the crux of the matter isn't it?

I really liked this piece. This is the Booth we know and love. Not Goof!Booth but serious!Booth and loyal!Booth, a man who intimately knows his partner and what she is and is not capable of. But even knowing that, he'd do whatever she needs from him.

And what is that, if not love?

I love seeing loyal!Booth, wish the writers would bring him back a bit more. Not to mention dark!Booth (aka struggles with his past) - they did it so well in S1, but I feel they've kinda abandonded most of that nowadays. Makes me nostalgic...will have to re-watch some of S1 soon, I'm missing Bones over the summer hiatus.

I know; I totally feel this way too. This is why we wrote 'Latent Images' the way that we did. When the writers won't do it, we do it ourselves! But I would LOVE to see it in canon. We got a glimpse of it in 'Girl in the Mask' but I would love to see more of it in S5. Fingers crossed...

I completely agree - that episode just pulled on my heartstrings all over, and I loved the depth of emotion shown in that one scene with Booth.
